Commercial Description:
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber-brown with a thick foamy off-white head that lingers. Rich aroma, of malt, wood, brown sugar, cognac, and maple. Taste starts with cognac, malt, and alcohol then picks up a lot of maple syrup sweetness. Lingering sticky maple-malt sweetness. Very tasty and rich.

Bottle. Brown pour, small tan head. Aroma of honey, maple, golden raisins, booze and juicy fruit gum. Flavor is a bit too hot but the nice sweetness and flavors of maple syrup, honey and caramel are nice. Good carbonation. This one would really, really be good in a year or so.

Bottle. brown pour with a thin head. Bubble gum aromas with a bit of dough, raisin, cinnamon, alcohol prickliness. It’s in the mouth that you get the maple syrup, strong sticky malts, very sweet, liquory and a good alcohol presence. This is geting better and better everytime.

Dark murky brown with reddish tint; medium beige head. Aroma - quite sweet, maple syrup, some alcohol, walnuts?, raisin bran? cookie dough? jhumphries69 notes bubblegum, I would agree with it. Opens up your sinuses like a real scotch. Very tasty, full bodied, malty, maple syrup, oak. Moderate carbonation gives a texture of some dry patchy bark. Potent and very well put together beer. Not supremely complex but very classy, very satisfying warming and tasty.

Bottle. Pours a lightly hazed crimson hued tawny amber with a medium to large beige head. Sweet candied bananas, bubble gum caramel, and some maple syrup notes. Medium to thick body, caramel and maple. Big long warming alcohol and more banana like after flavors.

33cl bottle. Pours a bright orangey-brown with a thin tan head that leaves some small streaks and spots of lace on the glass. Bubble gum aroma emanates as I pour from the bottle, but subsides (can’t smell it now). Chewy malt aroma - lots of caramel, lots of sticky malts, softfruit/gum esters, subtle spiciness/smokiness, not-so-subtle ethanol. The flavor follows the aroma: chewy malts with a lot of caramel and a mesmerizing combo of fruity esters + sticky-sweet malts. There is a subtle spiciness (phenol, not hops) and then toward mid-palate is the entrance of a tantalizing duo of fruity esters and soft earthy hops. The finish is full but manages to be slightly dry with a subtle spiciness, lots of caramel and toffee malts (touch of cocoa, too), and a noticeable taste of alcohol (but not unpleasant). The mouthfeel is more bubbly than expected - starts almost sharp with carbonation - but it dulls into a smooth, slippery, full-bodied liquid that leaves a velvety coating on the tongue. Overall, what a fantastic brew! (And strongly intoxicating for such a small portion)

(12oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye) Pours a glowing orange with a nice lasting head. Nose is spicy, alcohol and maple syrup. Taste is very hot on the front and the finish, maple syrup, and great carbonation. Some caramel here too.

Single purchased at the ol’ Buckeye Beer Engine. Pour is a nice murky brown with a hint of red to it. Almost no head to speak of. The aroma is not overpowering -it has some subtle notes of caramel malt, but really the maple is the one singing out in front. The flavor is quite unusual. It has a thick sweetness to it at first, then a real bitterness, and a strong earthy flavor with comes to a close with the maple flavorings. Such an unusual beer, but one that definitely works.
