| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2009 12 oz bottle: Deep amber w/ orange highlights and a light beige head. Moderately fruity, but indistinct at the moment. Nice wood maple flavor grows as it warms, along with toasty malt. Clean otherwise. Flavor is sweet up front, very warming with alcohol, caramel, very little maple flavor, but it is woody as well as a bit maply, to be expected if it was true maple syrup. Sweet and syrupy up front, but has a drier finish with alcohol, which may add to the fruitiness. Fuller body at first ,but lighter in the finish, dry m/f due to alcohol, and low CO2. Not a bad beer, but I think it could be more refined? It’s not that I don’t like it, and that the maple essence isn’t captured. I think they did a fine job of that, but I’m not 100% convinced I am a big fan of the beer. Too hot for me, and needs more complexity IMHO.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2009 11.5 oz. Bottle from spring 2009. Poured into a snifter, it settled with a murky brown color with zero head and no discernible carbonation. Aromatics are definitely sweet and subtly complex. Nose is dominated by malt sugars and has notes of wet wood, vanilla, maple syrup and caramel. Tastes largely the same as the nose, but with a bit of banana bread and dark fruit character. No trace of hops anywhere. This actually seems to be more of a sweet brown ale in style and lacks any peat or smoky flavor typically associated with a Scotch ale. The texture of this one is thick and rests heavy on the tongue with almost no carbonation. Has a bit of alcohol heat combined with some sweet maple syrup at the end. Overall its not a bad beer, but maybe a bit too sweet. BeerandBlues2 (3225), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

Pours mahogany with a small, fizzy light brown head, some retention with spare lacing. Aroma is banana, dark bread, candy, no hops, doughy yeast, plum, bubble gum, and light maple syrup. Heavy sweetness, creamy banana nut bread batter, maple syrup, and alcohol flavor. Full bodied, creamy and alcoholic palate with a spicy and dry finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a lifeless, thin, murky tea brown with an assertive aroma of well-aged single malt with caramel bits swirled in old basement air. Flavor is an intense rush of oaky whisky and musty dark fruit with a subtle yet noticeable finish of maple. Sits heavy on the tongue, leaving an oily yet dry finish. Well-balanced and delicious. Definite repeat. Magicdave6 (5551), London, Greater London, England
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Bottle at chris_o’s "smash kook’s granny tasting". Alround rating: Scotch ale eh, i put anyone from any period in time to take this beer to scotland and give it to people and ask them if they recognise it as anythign like any scotish beer has ever been. Fuckin north americans making up bloody styles to try and market beer. Massive maple syrup character, very sweet indeed, sugary mouthfeel. Not good in any respect, i think everyone at the table poured the remainders away. Ryan82SM (261), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
