beermoose (25), Blainville, Quebec, Canada Nov 24, 2003 Poured with nitrogen. Gives the beer a thick and rich foam that stays all along as you drink it. Pitch dark with brown reflections. You get espresso coffee vapors comming out of the beer. Sweet to the taste (brings memory of some milky stouts), you can taste the coffee, some caramel. The experiance could be similar to an ICED Espresso. Crockett (901), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada Jul 27, 2005 Tap at DDC! Pours black with a big dark brown head. Viscous cascading wave pool oscillating until it leveled off. Head seemed to last forever. Nose of burnt toast, sharpy, espresso. Flavours are clearly malted milk, coffee. Robust beer, but it is defined in the crazy booming limitless aftertaste. Coffee Crisp chocolate bars. Pudding. Rasins sweetness. The toasting/roast is so even. Body of the beer is incredibly smooth. Exactly what J. Francois wants it to be. Pudding like but not overwhelmingly thick mouthfeel. Had a craving and headed back for more the next day, knowing there probably would be nothing. Spectacular. axilla (940), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 14, 2005 Updated: Feb 21, 2006Poured solid black with a frothy brown head. Aroma is a lot of coffee with dark chocolate and hazelnut. Flavor was dark chocolate, strong coffee, smoked and toasted malts. I kind of expected this to be as thick and cakey as the D.L. but it was very smooth. I’m very interested in seeing how this ages.

On tap at Dieu du Ciel.
You haven’t had this beer until you’ve had it on tap. A world of difference! All of the flavors were still there but just better balanced and very smooth. My trip to Montreal was ALL about this beer. richlikebeer (747), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 13, 2005 22 oz bottle at the brewpub, Sept 03 vintage, batch #38. I drove through a snow and wind storm for 10 hours to get to Montreal, and ever second of it was worth it as soon as the cap came off the bottle. a viscous black pour with a creamy coffee colored head. i swirled it around in the glass for about 10 minutes, drowing myself in the rich aroma of coffee gushing out of the beer, along with some hints of licorice. by the time i tasted it, i was noticably drooling on the bar. the rich, thick mouthfeel explodes with coffee, with hints of malts and slight bits of chocolate coming along at the end. even the small amount that i licked off my lips after i put the glass down was pure heavenly beer. a slight bit of alcohol warmness came in with the first few sips, but were hardly noticable by the end of the bottle, and did nothing to detract from the taste. as the bottle warmed, the coffee flavor became even more dominant, making the malts even less present, but just a hint of hops crept in on the very tail end. I have never given a 5 before, but i have never had a beer that i anticipated so much and that lived up to that anticipation. Miver (292), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 6, 2008 Had on draft at the brewpub a while back and also a few other times. This rating is based on the "experience" that I had at the brew pub. I usually take notes or won’t rate a beer this long after I consumed, but this one I remember distinctly as my all time favorite. Poured black with a nice brown sticky head. Aroma was of coffee yet a tad sweet. The taste was of coffee with a nice amount of cream. I picked up a real nice banana nut bread finish. It was amazing that the alcohol was hidden so well. I had dreams about this one.
