Commercial Description:
If you love really good coffee and really good beer equally, you will be thrilled with Péché Mortel. If coffee isn’t your cup of tea, and caffeine makes you bounce off the ceiling, then just put the bottle down and find something else to drink. This beer is all about coffee. Indeed, you may have seen ‘coffee stouts’ before, but no brewer has ever married coffee and beer so naturally and seamlessly.
And this isn’t just any stout, but an imperial stout, which means that it is modeled on the strong, rich, and very complex stouts that were made in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries exclusively for shipment to Russia, where they were a special favorite at the court of the Czars.

Thanks to bitbucket!!! Pours a nice black color with a small brown head that sticks to the glass with each sip. Aroma is purely coffee and bitter chocolate. Flavor is coffee, burnt malts, bitter dark chocolate and some hops. It is smooth and full bodied. I do taste some of the alcohol, but not too much of a burn. Very nice brew indeed. Glad I finally got to try it!!

11.5 oz bottle purchased at Julio’s in Massachusetts. Pours a pitch black with a dark brown head. Nose is coffee, malt & chocolate. Thick, oily palate with low carbonation. Intense coffee flavor, maybe a little to much so. Secondary flavor of unsweetened chocolate. 9.5 % abv is well hidden behind all the coffee and chocolate.

bottle (thank’s Alex!!!) - black (really black) beer with a brownish head. Very clear coffee aroma. The strong alcohol (9.5%) is hiding behind the intense coffee flavour. Never had something comparable. Highly viscous beer.

Bottle. Thanks to Linus_Stick for sharing this one. Pours a thick oily extremely dark brown, with a thin as velum tan head. Aroma is thick... filled with roasted coffee beans, 75% dark chocolate, cream, and roasted malt. Taste is sticky and bitter up front, then fades into a sweeter malt and choclatety flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and soft with a light sticky residue left behind. An excellent beer that should be tasted by all.

11.5oz bottle bought in southern ind. dark opaque pour with nice head. just stared at it for a few..the aroma was intense and coffee and unsweetened chocolate and malt. the first taste was nectar. the stout and strong coffee flavor was intense and incredible and the sublteness of the chocolate and malt was a nice after taste. worth every bit of its rating.

Bottle at Volo, Toronto. Like a big, smokey, malted coffee milkshake. Flavors of smoke, wood, coffee, cream, sweet malt, burnt barley, and something like gin. Super complex. I would cut back the coffee just a touch, but hey, I’m a tea man. Dieu du ciel, these beers are hard to find in Ontario!
