nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 20, 2009 Bottle. Appearance: A rich, silky black pour with a thin, yet dense mocha head that fades to a ring. Pretty heavy lacing around the glass. Aroma: The nose is dark, roasted coffee with some malt and chocolate notes. Flavor: The taste is mainly dark coffee and bitter chocolate. Some notes of roasted malts are present as well, but the coffee is certainly the main attraction. I’m not complaining though. Palate: Medium-full body. Smooth texture with a bit of a dry finish. Overall: Incredibly drinkable and tasty. Certainly a great imperial stout with excellent use of coffee. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 18, 2009 WOW. Huge taste! I just couldn’t wait. Funny how I hate a lot of the coffee beers yet this one is so very fine. Black. Dark brown cap, thin but it hangs around. Awesome looming dissipating lacing that leaves ok ropes. The aroma is huge. Huge stinky coffee that works very well, tobacco, dirt, concentrated chocolate syrup, and the thing that has stuck with me the most as the defining aroma, even over the looming coffee is the immediate reminder of Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Hay. The taste is nothing less than a punch in the face. Maybe the aroma is more of an intense roasted malt with coffee as a side kick. For a coffee based Impy Stout this brew is looking down on the others with ease. Taste is tasty. Chocolatelynessishie comes out more as it warms but the roast coffee hammer still rules with an iron fist. Coffee, hops! Yummerific! The citrus is there, trying very hard to push through the depth of malts and succeeds like a weed that spreads though an unchecked flower bed. So much coffee. I don’t drink coffee but I really really like this despite the fact that I’m so drunk that I’m considering calling in sick tomorrow (as I reach for a ST Bern 12ABT) cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jul 15, 2009 Ashy aroma (in a good way) coupled with ground coffee beans, chunky chocolate and roasted nuts. The abundant scent is welcoming. Opaque, dark brown color with an inch thick brown head that lasts for the duration. Thick/heavy lacing coats the glass, this beer looks awesome. Bitter-sweet, thick and silky. There is a great lingering aftertaste, very hearty. Flavors of rich, freshly brewed coffee, baker’s chocolate and fudge. A nice smoky taste (similar to the ashy aroma) followed by lots of roasted, nutty malt. Exceptional, only the price will keep me away from going back and obtaining the rest. TheHulk (106), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2009 "The Hammer" Stour style head, smells like coffee grounds, bitter and black, strong coffee, malts and alcohal flavour. A lot of coffee in the flavour. A LOT! alcohol disrupts aftertaste. It’s not too thick tasteing. zizzybalubba (335), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA Jul 13, 2009 11.5 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Black pour with a 1/2 inch tan head. Mostly coffee aroma with some roasted malt. Dark, smoky flavor as well as coffee. Wonderful all around. This is an incredible Imperial Stout. djtimeless (170), Florida, USA Jul 9, 2009 Pours out black with tan head. Taste is brewed coffee. Some dark fruits and chocolate, but mostly roasted coffee. Some booze and bitter hops are also present. Thick and rich, but smooth. Great brew. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2009 aroma is french pressed java and a touch of the occassional ester, grape in particular. pour is nearly dead flat. flavor is acidic burn of coffee grounds and little else, emphasized by the stagnant body. this bottle might have been defective but this is far from a failure even when crippled by a lack of carb. alcohol comes in time and keeps the mouthfeel silky while providing a fire for my tummy. great beer -- but still cant top breakfast stout.
