vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2009 Updated: Jun 23, 200911.5oz bottle. Pours dark with minimal foam. However carbonation is still appropriate. Served a little too cold, flavor was not immediately all there but as this brew warmed to the correct serving temperature the flavor intensified. Great beer will have to try to get my hands on a 22 oz bottle because I am told they are slightly better to age. JulienHuxley (165), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada Jun 12, 2009 Updated: Oct 27, 2009Pours pitch black with a medium brown head that fades quickly into a thin layer. Deep rich smell of ground roasted coffee. Tastes like a cup of espresso coffee with almost no fizz. Well balanced alcohol only a slight warmth in the finale. Not one of those imperial stouts you want to put away but fab to drink fresh. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jun 10, 2009 Pours BLACK, even when held up to the light, no hints of any other colour. Head is khaki coloured, two fingers deep and clings to my glass for dear life. Aroma is coffee big time up front and in your face. Hints of chocolate, licorice, earthy tones, some soft fruits, a touch of alcohol, fresh brownies, and berries. In the mouth it’s a full frontal assault on the palate. Now I like my coffee black, and this is like taking Turkish coffee and adding a shot if espresso to it. Man is this beer intense! Like chewing on a coffee bean. Hints of chocolate, licorice, soy sauce, red berries, a hint of caramel on the finish with a little bit of oak. Mouth feel is lively and pleasant for the style. This beer punishes your palate every chance it get and you just keep coming back for more. Great beer! Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Jun 9, 2009 Poured black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Roasted coffee flavor with some chocolate. zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 8, 2009 Interesting. Minimal head, aroma was not overly powerful, coffee notes with some vanilla or something. Flavor was interesting, coffee with notes of caramel and sugars (chocolates). Enjoyable. ewestern (198), Ohio, USA Jun 8, 2009 Very dark brown/black color with little to no brown head, no real lacing to speak of. Strong coffee aroma with some cinnamon. Strong black coffee flavor with hints of sweetness in the form of cinnamon and sugar, some caramel pokes through. Nice burnt coffee finish. Makes me think of a Cinnabon roll soaked in coffee. MeisterBrew (138), Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA Jun 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a thick black with a very nice sized tan head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, coffee, and roasted malts. Flavor is out of this world... coffee mainly with a sweet cherry like backside that is really pleasant. I love this stout. I could drink this everyday, all day if it weren’t for the price. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Jun 7, 2009 Pours black with reddish hues. Aroma of coffee, roast, chocolate, cherries, oak, and vinous malt. Tastes of dark chocolate, floral hops, spicy pepper, and fruity tropical esters. Mouthfeel is full to heavy bodied with moderate carbonation. Very delicious.
