nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Dec 27, 2008 Updated: Dec 28, 200811.5oz bottle. Big coffee aroma. Opaque black with a patchy, soapy head. Super smooth on the palate, with a considerable coffee finish. The sweet malty alcohol is exceptionally balanced with the chocolaty coffee tastes. Really comes off smooth, mellow carbonation and silky malt profile. I thought Redhooks Double Black was the definitive Coffee Stout but this one really makes a case for itself. Maybe not quite as rich Coffee-wise as the DB Excellent stuff, highly recommended. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Dec 27, 2008 Heavy smell of coffee slight scent of alcohol and malt. Definitely has a huge coffee presence with an ever present alcohol flavor. martin21 (156), Quebec city, Quebec, Canada Dec 26, 2008 Le cote aromatique du cafe domine beaucoup, ce qui est bon. Rotie, corser, admirablement houblonner.
Aromatic coffee dominates, which is very good! Roastiness, strong, very well hopped. cyrenaica (435), Milton, Ontario, Canada Dec 24, 2008 341ml bottle

I tried this beer on November 5, 2005 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was told about this beer from a bartender friend at another beer bar I frequent in the city. I will have to thank him for the recommendation.
The beer poured a blackish colour with brown at the edges with a thin light brown head. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate/cocoa. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, thich, and somewhat creamy. The flavour was a complex suite of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt.............followed by a bittering finish. An excellent beer. MrCreosote (1), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada does not count Dec 22, 2008 Easily my favourite beer. I have tried the majority of the top 50, and this one deserves more recognition. Beautiful deep colour, wonderful coffee and burnt toffee nose, alcohol is up there - just the way I like it. Living in Ottawa, ON, I can get all I want and I often bring some with me to spread the love when I travel. marcbé (86), Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada Dec 22, 2008 Pitch black with creamy tan foam. the strong coffee and chocolate aroma is well balanced with the malt and hop. Some dark fruit emerge after a while . Of course, the coffe dominates the overall flavor but it is really well made. Where is that 9.5%. A great brew (especially at -20 C outside...).
Dubbercody (214), Vancouver, Washington, USA Dec 21, 2008 11.5 oz bottle. Winter Storm Blast 2008, being snowbound and stuck at home leads me to a cellar stash break in to see what is calling my name.
Nicely complex brew pours out and leaves large small bubble head. Thick with a strong coffee flavor and sticky chocolate and dark fruit. Nice alcohol that blends so nicely into the beer leaving a warmth and resonance in your mouth.
If you like coffee, no make that GOOD coffee, this is a beer for you. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown color, with a lingering espresso foam colored head. Flavor is, well, lets break down everything I taste in here. Fresh black coffee, chocolate malt, dark chocolate, black licorice, a hint of smoke, ripe fruits, a hint of earthy wood barrel. Full bodied, sticky and chewy on the palate. The more this warms up the more flavor comes out. Ends on a dry note. Damn, as a good coffee lover, this is delicious.
