Flavor: coffee, chocolate and caramel malts, roasted. The coffee isn’t too great for me. If this is all about coffee, then they need to ask Alesmith for some advice. Wasatch (270), Layton, Utah, USA

Poured into a chalice a black color, nice carbonation, not much of a head or lacing afterwards. Looks like some oil slick on top. The nose is of roasted malts, hops, toffee aplenty, and slight alcohol. The taste is superb of malts/hops, and tons of toffee. I believe I’ve never so far had a brew with this much toffee in it. Nice warming effect when going down. Medium body, well rounded brew. Very drinkable, a very very nice American Double Stout.

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a no-light dark body with an olive green head and a straight-up, no foolin’ unground coffee bean nose. Flavor is deep, unfiltered black coffee with a chocolate malt backbone. Superb mouthfee; thick, coating and unforgettable. This isn’t a beer; it’s an alcoholic chocolate milkshake. gator2683 (135), Anchorage, Alaska, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Wow. This one pours black, with a mocha-colored dissipating head. Aroma is of stale coffee - like espresso grounds that were used and then left out for half an hour. Some acidic notes of soy sauce, but more bitter chocolate and even a bit of charcoal. Palate is syrupy, but I didn’t mind that - a beer like this should be thick. Flavor is right on the nose - espresso, bitter chocolate, etc. Very nice - very tasty, but probably a little heavy on the coffee notes for my liking. Bhops (331), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Bottle thanks to mar. Pours black with some reddish tint? Thick sustained head, looks like wheat pancake batter. Aroma of coffee, dough with hops underneath. Flavor of heavy dark roasted coffee, raspberry? vanilla, smokey/woody flavor. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Great beer, looking forward to trying this and it did not disappoint. tennisjoel (936), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Rich chocolate and coffee aroma. Dark black pour. Pretty good beer, although from the hype I thought it would be even better. Slight let down. Smooth flavor, although the burnt coffee aspect and lack of complexity do not make this stand out amongst its peers. I’m glad I got to try this, but too expensive for me to buy again. Aroma was coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste was similar but very well balanced and smooth with nice texture. Finished nice and enjoyed a lot.
