Sep 10, 2008 The perfect imperial stout and possibly even the perfect beer. A deep, menacing pour with a khaki colored head. Nose of espresso and secondary hints of cafe mocha made with dark chocolate - like sitting next to coffee being roasted. Flavor is what you would expect, given the aroma. Great mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced with intermingled sweetness and bitterness that slide gracefully between each other during different parts of the sip.

Sep 10, 2008 Chocolate shake consistency with a 1/2 inch latte head. The aroma is of dark roasted coffee, charred malt, and a hint of cocoa. Flavor definitely exhibits a "burnt" or "heavily smoked" character. If you left this one in the glass overnight, it would definitely form a solid mass. A very good stout...excellent coffee-focused beer...but can’t hold a candle to the best.

Sep 9, 2008 Bottle. Jet black pour with a very small frothy head. Aroma FULL of Dark, dark chocolate and heavy, rich, black coffee. Upon tasting I was absolutely delighted that a "stout brewed with coffee" finally delivered! Thick and delicious! Think of oily, cold-press coffee, that isn’t cut with water. There’s just not some coffee hidden in the background, this beer has coffee featured at the forefront, they way it should be. Very happy and impressed. It lived up to the hype, and is one of the best coffee beers I have every had.

Sep 7, 2008 Black as ink, thin brown head. Huge coffee aroma. Tastes like a coffee milkshake made with dark chocolate. Syrupy and thick mouthfeel. Bitter and long finish. One of the best imperial stouts i’ve had.

Sep 6, 2008 Inky black with a thin brown head.Chalky chocolatey brandy nose with a hint of tannic grapeskin. Tastes almost exactly as it smells, but drier, with more coffee and noticeable alcohol in finish. Biting middle of tongue bitterness, with nice subtle carbonation. $6/11.5oz

Sep 6, 2008 Thanks to Four Firkins, I was able to try this rare Canadian gem. $6.50 per 11.5 oz. bottle. Pours jet black with a creamy tan head. Nose is aggressive, only slight hints of coffee along with roasted malts, a hint of chocolate and iodine. Mouth feel is heavy and brash, smooth & oily and very acidic. Definately taste the high alcohol from the get go. Coffee flavor is a bit washed out by the roastiness. This is definately in the running for the best coffee-beer. Only thing holding this back is the limited availability and high price.

Sep 6, 2008 11.5 oz bottle purchased at Julio’s in Massachusetts. Pours a pitch black with a dark brown head. Nose is coffee, malt & chocolate. Thick, oily palate with low carbonation. Intense coffee flavor, maybe a little to much so. Secondary flavor of unsweetened chocolate. 9.5 % abv is well hidden behind all the coffee and chocolate.

Sep 4, 2008 bottle (thank’s Alex!!!) - black (really black) beer with a brownish head. Very clear coffee aroma. The strong alcohol (9.5%) is hiding behind the intense coffee flavour. Never had something comparable. Highly viscous beer.
