Aroma was of straight coffee still and some chocolate came through but not much else. Flavor was solid. Dark for a stout but not real dark. twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 24, 2008 bottle. Thick, opaque, heavy black pour. Surprisingly big medium brown head that foams up with no signs of clearing. Thick aromas of burnt malt and a huge dose of coffee (suprise!). Flavors of unsweetened coffee and big heavy chunks of roasted malt. Some middling bitterness hangs around too. Holds the 9.5% very well- no excessive booze heat. Finish/mouthfeel is superb- very thick, smooth, and silky on the palate. Superb coffee stout- possibly better from the bottle than previous samples from the tap?? | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 22, 2008 It’s been a long time coming... sampled from a bottle courtesy of BitchesBrew. Thick, creamy, sticky cappuccino-like brown head. Dense, rich, malty aroma with loads of coffee/espresso, dark roasted/burnt toast graininess, a bit of a sweet molasses hint. The flavors lived up to the aroma, huge amounts of sweet rich roasty malts, coffee, molasses . Very viscous, but soft and silky sugary mouthfeel. Pretty lasting, inconclusive finish. Very little (to no) astringency. A pretty serious beer, very good, very well-made, but you have to be in the mood for this blast of COFFEE. MaltOMeal (652), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2008 11.5oz bottle thanks to Kempleton (BA). Pours black as outer space witha lovely light-brown head. The head hung around to produce great lacing. Nose was of roast coffee and chocolate. Taste was roast coffee, chocolate, fruit and somewhat ashy. Mouthfeel was medium, but more of a wet feel, not the usual dry chalkiness often found in impy stouts. merlin48 (511), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 20, 2008 11.5 oz bottle pours inky and opaque with an impressive brown head that strews some satiny sheets of lace on the snifter. Aroma is more subtle than expected but boasts black coffee, chocolate and black currants. Rich coffee dominates the taste, joined by lots of bittersweet chocolate and a fruity black currant note. Alcohol is concealed very well. One of the better coffee stouts around. FatPhil (3468), Espoo, Finland

Jet black, large tan head, settles to a small ring. Coffee and sweet spicy peppers aroma. Taste matches the aroma - coffee and even more spicy peppers. Slightly fizzy on the tongue, otherwise quite sticky in the mouth. Swirling it softens it nicely. Covers the alcohol perfectly. Great sipper, but so tasty you want to glug it. The spicy sweet peppers wow me all the way to the bottom. And the coffee’s not caricatured, all very well balanced. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Pours an obsidian black with small beige head. Nose is most definitely coffee: earthy, nutty, roasted, with a hint of bitter chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, and herbal hops. Smooth and not too rich on the palate, again with the coffee up front, however as flavor progress greater depths reveal themselves: burnt toast, deep bready malts, milky toffee, and an espresso bitter finish. A delightful coffee stout.
