Roli (319), laval, Quebec, Canada Jun 6, 2008 341 ml bottle. I gotta start by saying that I’m not sold at all to that kind of beer. I’m more of a belgian strong type of guy. But, this beer was exellent. Brown creamy head, dark brown color and strong coffee/malt aroma. Taste of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Alcohol is very well hidden under all those well balanced flavors. A pleasure from beginning to the end. Really worth the extra bucks. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 5, 2008 Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Deep black pour with a thick creamy tan head that lasts and laces nicely. Beautiful beer! Lots of dark roast coffee in the aroma, along with dark chocolate and roasted malt. Great coffee flavor as well, giving away to sweeter chocolate and vanilla. Creamy on the palate. Very nice stout! ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle poured an opaque black with a lasting creamy brown head with good lacing. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla and roastiness. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, roastiness, coffee and light vanilla with a smooth lingering bitter finish. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Jun 4, 2008 2005 Bomber:
Black with a beige head, good retention and lacing. Smell if lightly roasted coffee, a little bit of cream, some toffee and caramel. A really complex and wonderful aroma. Taste is incredibly smooth with light roasted coffee, cream, and some chocolate. Less than medium carbonation and heavier than medium body. Though the 2005 isn’t as good as it once was, it is still phenomenal.
2007 (rating below, not officially rating this one):
4 Black with a tan head.
6 Strong smell of burnt coffee and booze.
6 Old coffee, boozy, burnt caramel
3 Higher than medium carbonation and light body
The 2007 was sampled side by side with the 2005 and they seemed like two completely different beers. MikeB (12), Canada Jun 3, 2008 Belle couleur noire avec un collet brun pale.
Un goût prononcé de café avec un arrière goût de grillé et une chaleur d’alcool.
Donne le gout d’essayer en fut. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jun 3, 2008 11.5 fl oz (twist off, really?) bottle from Bottleworks in Seattle, WA, via after4ever. No dates marked on the bottle, but I am fairly certain this is the fresh batch. Pour is deep black, with a thick, two inch deep tan head. Nice lacing left behind as the head falls. This is a pretty beer. Aroma of smoky roasted coffee, and perhaps some milkiness. Taste follows the nose closely, charred roast coffee and the milkiness. The milkiness is a bit chalky in the taste. There is also some almost piney sweetness in the taste as well. Palate is full and mouth coating. Nicely done beer. Thanks for grabbing this one at BW for me, Tom. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 3, 2008 Pours a very dark fudge brown with a tall and lathery thick brown head. Fantastic coffee aroma, way more sweet then roasted with some background chocolate oat scents. Taste is sweet almost fruity for just a second and then all coffee. The body is very smooth and creamy with a long lasting coffee/earthy aftertaste. Finish is a little spicy too. Hides the ABV well, very easy to drink. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Jun 3, 2008 (Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-05-31) Black. Big brownish head. Coffee and ashtray in nose. Full and dry palate. Roasted malts and quite a bit of coffee in taste. Really nice imperial stout.
