Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Bottle shared with kleyland. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it sitting on the shelf at Green’s. Pours a dark black color. Thin, light brown head. The aroma is 100% coffee. Creamy body. Flavor is rich, roasted coffee. Just a delightfully delicious beer.

Rien de compliquer à dire : cette bière est parfaite. Elle goûte le grain de café et son haut taux en alcool (9,5%) ajouté du fort goût de café nous rappel la chaleur d’un bon café espresso. Miam!

Bottle, thanks to Glouglouburp. Pours black with a moderate creamy brown head, fantastic retention, sheet lace. Smells a bit like coffee grounds, a little dark malty sweetness as well. Tastes dark and roasty malty up front with the coffee flavors in the middle and a little dark fruit sweetness on the finish. Lingering bitter coffee. Full bodied, not syrupy, smooth and velvetty carbonation.

(Canada) Coutesy of AFI96, Nice black color with a foamy tan head. The aroma is of burnt wood, liqorice , dark espresso. Very nice lacing, with a very drinkable coffee / chocolate and pepper notes. The 10% is well hidden here but the mouthfeel is very dry, and a bit overpowering. Very enjoyable !!!!

Shared this bottle with BeerGestapo and it wasn’t as impressive as I’d hoped. Pour is very dark, nearly all black with a lasting brown head. Smells of wood, burnt sugar, anise, and heavy espresso. The flavor wasn’t nearly as intense as the smell, a bit weak even. You are immediately greeted with roasted bitterness with some coffee notes which subsides to a smooth anise and coffee flavor. Finishes dry, leaving a frothyness on the tongue. It was very good but I think it is a bit overrated.

12 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Twist off, cheap ass bottle. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with a thin but persistent mocha colored head. Aromas are of licorice, coffee, burnt sugar, roasted malt. Flavors are about the same as the aromas, with a shot of espresso added in. Thick mouthfeel, decent body. Very warming, finished somewhat chalky.
