lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA May 28, 2008 Thick black pour that instantly hits you with coffee. First taste and every taste after is super smooth coffee with a lot of chocolate velvety that makes it go down incredibly easy. Even non coffee drinkers can enjoy this one. Very nice. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA May 27, 2008 Black in color with a carbonated head of beige bubbles. The nose was filled with coffee, chocolate and citric hops. This continued into a medium to full-bodied beer with lots of carbonation to keep it fresh. Well-balanced and I think I will prefer it in a year or so once the hops have faded a bit. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA May 27, 2008 Pours black as night with a light brown head. Aroma is straight espresso. Flavor adds a little complexity with cocoa nibs, and almost a black tea tannin aspect to the finish. Very nice. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 (bottle from gunhaver) Pours black with a thick tan head that retains nicely and leaves sticky lacing. Aroma right off the bat is strong on dark roasted coffee, but chocolate and a light tart berry smell are present too. Upon warming, a sublte smokiness, graham cracker, and green pepper scent emerges, along with some vanilla. Further warming reveals some dark cherry. This is rather complex. Taste definitely features roasted coffee, but there’s also that tart berry-like flavor as well as some tastes of chocolate and toasted nut. The best quality of this beer is that it lacks the harsh astringency that some coffee stouts tend to possess. The finish is really roasty and chocolatey, bordering on smoky, with a bitterness appearing at the end. Smooth, substantial mouthfeel that makes it easy to drink. This is a well done integration of coffee and stout. muenster (339), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours super dark black with a thick, foamy brown head. Aroma is full of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Lots of roasty malt notes come through as well. The flavor has more smoky notes than the aroma leads on, but it is full of dark chocolate, and a robust coffee finish that lingers forever. Mouthfeel is adequately thick. The lacing made black metal band logos. rustychiles (997), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle shared at hellbillys hellraiser II.
Pours a nice viscous thick black with a brown head. Aroma of coffee, barley, chocolate. Flavor of Coffee, barley, cocoa, chocolate. Lots of coffee in this one and quite delicious. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 25, 2008 Bottle. Dark black pour. Obviously a strong coffee aroma; chocolate as well. Rich, dark coffee flavor, roasted malt and chocolate. Full body. Nice beer, but for me the coffee flavor overpowered everything else and limited the complexity of the beer. ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA May 24, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours impossibly brown/black with a small tan head, aroma is burnt coffee, slightly hospital-like, that is the only negative...flavour is all coffee, bitter chocolate, more tobacco as it warms, leaves you with a great mouthfeel and bitterness in the back of your throat, glad I got a few to sit on, definite potential in the cellar...
