Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

[Tap at the brewpub] A pitch black beer with a small brown head. The aroma contains strong notes of primarily coffee and vanilla - reminds me of a good ice coffee. The flavor has strong notes of roasted malt, coffee, and again vanilla. Wow.

(Bottle 66 cl) 9% ABV in this version. Pitch black, completely opaque with a bubbly, light brown head. Burned nose, full of coffee aromas - actually extemely coffeeish - one of the most aromatic beers I’ve ever come close to. Extremely dry - the world’s driest beer? Very burned flavours, coffee, dark bitter chocolate and burned toast. A bit like licking your fireplace? This may sound unpleasant but the beer certainly is not. It’s a true experience. Very dry, bitter finish - not a hoppy bitterness, again the burned malts dominate. 031205

A big coffee flavoured imperial stout. Black soloured. Coffee fragrant. Big soft maltyness, very salty, burnt flavours. A tasty, dangerous potion reminding of Irish coffee.

Bottle. Clear dark black color with a large, frothy - creamy - rocky, excellent lacing, fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, nutty, dark storn coffee, coffee bean dusty, dust, light alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration and a dry dust finish. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy - oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. Very nice ;o)) (120308)

Bottle, 9.5%. Roasted barley aroma, some smoke. Black colour. Big stable creamy brown head. Nice roasted flavour with lots off coffee. A little cream in the aftertaste. The flavour is also quite sweet, which is apparent in the slightly slick mouthfeel. 7 4 7 3 16

Bottled, thanks to René for sharing. Dark brown coloured with a beige had. Sweet aroma of coffee with roasted notes. Roasted flavour of coffee with notes of chocolate. Good, but too much coffee.
