Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Bottled. Thanks Marsiblursi. Black colour with low head. Green peppery coffee aroma with a fair deal of sweetness. Bit too much of pepper in my personal opinion. Flavour is different, here is much more balance, with chocolate and a fair share of sweetness. Lots of flavouring and bitter hops I belive, which is a good thing here. Slight peppery in flavour, just on the right level for my personal likings. Low-medium, but noticable, biterness with long flavour. I like good coffee alright. This was not very tasty.

Bottle poured an opaque black with a lasting creamy brown head with good lacing. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla and roastiness. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, roastiness, coffee and light vanilla with a smooth lingering bitter finish.

My 1100th rating! Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- my bottle courtesy of hopdog. Bottled August ’05. I’ve been saving this bottle for one of my milestones for a while now and I’ve really been looking forward to it! It did not dissapoint. Pours pitch black with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Awesome aroma with tons of coffee, dark malt, toffee, bourbon, chocolate, hops and more -- man that smells good! Sweet delicious flavour of predominently coffee followed by roasted malt, cocoa and hops. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Medium bodied, dry & creamy mouthfeel. This was so effin’ good that I can’t wait to someday try this on tap, damn Dieu Du Ciel! makes good beer.

341 mL bottle received via trade with Glouglouburp. Pours opaque with an average, creamy, dark brown head, lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, coffee, toasted grain), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather, meat) with notes of smoke and wood. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

12 oz bottle from 2008. Pours a deep black with a large creamy/foamy deep tan head that left a bunch of sticky lacing. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla notes, almonds, dark bitter chocolate and light smoke. Flavor of roasted malt, milk chocolate, latte, some vanilla notes, almonds, some bitter chocolate notes, a touch of some hop bitterness and yes even more of the coffee notes. What a great beer. ABV is well hidden in both flavor and aroma.
