Pours a deep black with a large creamy/foamy deep tan head that left a bunch of sticky lacing. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla notes, almonds, dark bitter chocolate and light smoke. Flavor of roasted malt, milk chocolate, latte, some vanilla notes, almonds, some bitter chocolate notes, a touch of some hop bitterness and yes even more of the coffee notes. What a great beer. ABV is well hidden in both flavor and aroma. TheBeerGod (3169), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 23, 2005 Thanks to matta and BuckNaked for sending a bottle. Starless midnight pour with a surprising bubbly brown head. Dense microbubbles surrounding medium foamy bubbles. Leaves a nice lace sticking to the glass. Aroma is steeped in coffee, rich dark chocolate, roasted malt, burnt double chocolate chip cookies, light burnt oatmeal, and hints of brown sugar. Taste is RICH! Strong coffee, dark chocolate, burnt oatmeal, roasted malt, more burnt cookie notes, some chocolate milk notes and fresh cream. Leans heavily on the coffee. Body has mild lactose acidity and lingering bitterness but is full and moderately carbonated. Finishes with more coffee and chocolate compounding the roasted malt and chocolate chip cookies. VERY similar to Founders Breakfast Stout. As a matter of fact, I’d have a hard time differentiating between the two in a blind taste test. Both are great and very drinkable, however, it’s a shame both are so limited. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 9, 2008 12oz bottle. Served at cellar temperature. Smelled of coffee and subdued chocolate. Poured an opaque black color. Light brown crema with an orange tint. It retained its height fairly well, but eventually settled to a thin film. Fairly effervescent. Bitter and roasty on the tongue with lots of dry coffee flavor. There was also a hint of burnt stick. At 9.5%, the alcohol aroma and flavor were well hidden. A bit of dark fruit came out at the end. Not as thick and chewy as most imperial stouts. This is a good beer, but a bit overrated I think. Probably not worth the high price of admission. I’ve been holding this for a special occasion and I think this is it. Sharing with bikesandbeer. The pour is black with a thin third finger light brown head. The aroma is intense amazingly nicely roasted coffee. Its like smelling a big bag of fresh beans. Damn, the taste is humongous, with lots and lots of coffee, some chocolate and lots of smokey roastiness. This is a hell of a beer, extremely coffely bitter, so much coffee its hard to know where the cofee ends and the stout begins. Little vanilla on the back end. Damn this is good. Thank you Todd for searching Wisconsin for this. Jukkabro (3039), Tampere, Finland
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Black colored with medium sized light brown head. Rich coffee aroma with this fine dry chocolate, strong hops and fine touch of vanilla. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also rich with this excellent balance of coffee and dry still milky chocolate, fine hops also here. This is how it works, not too compex, still excellent. Aftertaste dries with still strongly bitter hops and coffee. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Pours a nice black color with a small brown head that sticks to the glass with each sip. Aroma is purely coffee and bitter chocolate. Flavor is coffee, burnt malts, bitter dark chocolate and some hops. It is smooth and full bodied. I do taste some of the alcohol, but not too much of a burn. Very nice brew indeed. Glad I finally got to try it!! presario (3002), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
