Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Bottle. Thick brown head on black beer. Strong licorice, caramel and chocolate nose. Tastes as advertised with big alcohol note. Tasty brown sugar flavour with lots of coffee. Very tasty.

Medium dark brown lasting head. Opaque black body. Intense thin and sharp mealy aroma of pine needles, juniper, and coffee with burnt oily notes. Dry intense burnt coffee taste with milky chocolate notes. Taste is surprisingly mild after the punch of the aroma. Dry juniper coffee aftertaste leaves long dry lingering chocolate taste. Very, very good! A great beer. (0.341l bottle from gr0ve.)

Bottle. Mahogony-black beer with a brown head. Coffee and rich malt aroma. Coffee/toffee flavor with light roast. Medium-plus bodied. Coffee lingers with rich malt and caramel. Too much coffee. Bottle was aged about a year.

2007 Vintage. 21st birthday present (among others) from my amazing girlfriend! Pours quite viscously into my Stone Old Guardian Snifter. Huge, tight, creamy, light brown head covering an absolutely pitch black body. Immense rings of lacing left by each sip on the glass. The head remains fully intact throughout the entire expiriance. Intense fresh roast coffee aroma, accompanied by French Vanilla, sweet chocolate, and some smoke. Taste is, wow, amazing if you even remotely like the taste of coffee. Naturally sweetend coffe up front followed by a chocolatey and coffee bitterness, with a light brandy aftertaste. Best tasting cold expresso that I have ever had. Thick, syrupy, mouthcoating mouthfeel, with light, playful bubbles. Alcohol is well hidden. Great stout!

This is like an iced coffee. Coffee aroma, coffee flavor; coffee everywhere. Black with a small tan head. Thick and heavy on the palate. It is a little simple for a 100th percentile beer, being all about coffee and nothing else, but what it does offer it does amazingly well.

Pours a pitch black color with a medium, creamy light brown head that leaves beautifull lacing on the glass. Amazing, mind blowing aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and cake icing. Amazing flavor of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and cake icing. It has a great balance throughout the tasting process, the chocolate, coffee and malt are pretty much even, no given element dominates the others, instead they join in harmony creating pure liquid orgasm. Very full body, liquorous texture and soft carbonation. This liquid wonder is a meal and a dessert in the same time, it’s a truly amazing and mind blowing achievement.

Bottled. Aroma has sherrykeg wood and roasted coffee mainly, some dried fruitiness. Black coloured beer with a thin beige lace. The taste is slightly sweet and becomes more bitter towards the finish. There is mostly roasted coffee, some chocolate and liquorice. Well bodied, oily beer. Really good.
