Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Chris at Ebeneezers put this on tap for me so I could buy a pour of it, which was extremely cool. Black in color with a chocolate milk colored brown head. Aroma is big as it should be with coffee, roast, alot of fresh chocolate, burnt sugars, and caramel. Taste is incredible, with alot of roast and rich, fresh chocolate. The coffee almost gives it an earthy flavor. Body is really big, but overall it’s really smooth and incredibly drinkable, not too sweet, or alcoholic. Fiinishes bitter with lingering coffee, roast, and alittle bit of sugar. One of the best RIS’s I’ve had, and now of course wish I can have more!

Bottle at Blind Tiger. Very dark body with tan head. Really rich nose of dark fruits and chocolate. Taste is amazing, on fire, with fruits and lots of chocolate. Gets more burning, warming towards the end with more choc and toffee to note. Remarkable.

Very black colored with a huge tan colored head. Smell is fresh ground coffee, dark fruits, chocalate, and roastiness. Tastes a lot like the smell. Good beer.

22oz bottle-sampled with my girlfriend at the Blind Pig in Champaign, IL. I have been hunting for this beer for it seems forever. I herd through the site that this bar had a few bottles of this sought after beer. It was $20, but i thought it was worth it. it poured 95% black lightly viscous with a small beige head which was fizzy with tight carbonation. aroma of coca, roast, espresso, licorice, vanilla, and alot of alcohol heat for a 9.5% beer. lots of alcohol, roast and coffee on the flavors. The alcohol brings this beer down quite a bit. Has a nice finish actually-the alchol mends well with the onslaught of dark malt. palate is somewhat of a downfall for this beer-fizzy and somewhat over-carbonated. Im still very happy i got to sample this once hugely sought after beer from Canada

@ Argo0 and Kathy’s 2006 Holiday Gathering - Obsidian black, thick dark tan creamy head. Rich inviting nose of the blackest, most bitter used coffee grounds you could imagine. Upon warming, further tones of roasty black chocolate, cream, and light caramel emerge. Flavor holds true to the aromas as I feel the caffeine buzz setting in. ABV expertly hidden. Full bodied and velvety, soft carbonation, coffee laden finish. Waiting forever to try this, and it was exactly what I expected. A fantastic stout for the coffee lover in me. Thanks for sharing Jacco...

660 ml bottle bottled on 8/05 special thanks to pineypower. What a great beer. Pours darkest black with a brown head. Head pretty decent for an Imperial. Left decent lacing too. Aromas were coffee right off, then some chocolate and dark fruit came through. Chocolate covered cherries with coffee on the side. Flavors were were more coffee and rich roasty malts. A slightly bitter finish kept it all from being too sweet. Awesome stuff.

Black with a frothy tan head. Big spent coffee grain cocoa aroma. Medium body. Strong bitter coffee espresso blackened malt flavors with a lump of sugar. A little too much coffee in this one.

black pour with a thick espresso head. nothing but bold coffee on the nose. slight chocolate flavor in the finish and a huge roasted coffee flavor upfront. it went very well with the brownie i was having as well.
