Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Thick, deep black with a fluffy, tan head. Big, coffee nose with a rich, roasted, burnt malt aroma with hints of cocoa, vanilla, caramel, espresso, and dry toast. The body is thick, roasty and full. The mild to moderate carbonation is pleasant on the tongue. The flavor shows more intense coffee elements, akin to the Two Brother’s Old Man’s Irish Coffee. The cocoa, caramel and mild molasses-style sweetness sit in the back, happy to accompany the strong burnt coffee. The hops are evident, but somehow seem to contribute to the intense roasted bitterness of this beer. I’m not a huge fan of the Imperial Coffee Stout style, but this is pretty good.

Ok gang, this is an IS. Almost black in color with strong roasted aromas. The head rises and falls leaving a good lacing. Medium full nectar with superb carbonation. A heavy roasted espresso disposition marks the grade. I drink this and I say to myself Jonpol, this is a classic specimen that even a troglodyte like Turbo can appreciate. Strong flavors resulting in a heavy roast and a mild sweetness creep up on my person leaving a fine mild bittering component to finish.

Rating #600 22 oz bottle. I’ve been holding onto this one for a while, I figured this occasian enjoyed around the campfire of my bachelor party was a fine reason to pop it. Pours pitch black with a tall beige head. Lots of figs and dark fruit in the aroma chocolate, espresso, aged sherry notes. wow an amazing bouquet. Full bodied rich chocolate and espresso flavors, dark fruits, a light bitterness from the coffee. The sweetness of the imperial stout is balanced so well with the coffee beans and burnt dry notes that follow. Well done.

Pours thick and black with a thick dark tan head. Big coffee aroma thats starts to give off roasted grains and chocolate as it warms. Big chocolate malt, roasted grain, coffee taste. A really nice creamy taste with a chocolate malt thickness. Finishes chocolaty and coffe bitter. Insanely awesome.

Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Very dark heavy brown pour. Aroma is amazing. Lots of black pepper malts that sift with roastedness. Taste has huge dark chocolate notes. Finishes dark bitter. Lovely by all means.

Bottle. I absolutely loved this beer. Poured an obsidian black with a one finger brown head that lingered for the entirety of the beer, and produced a huge amount of lacing. Aroma of was of coffee....and lots of it. Also present were hints of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Flavor was intense coffee with a dry chocolate aftertaste. Body was slightly too thin to be rated a "5", but overall, one of the best impys I’ve had. If you don’t like coffee, this beer isn’t for you.

On CASK at Dieu Du Ciel Brewpub. Ok, wow, on CASK!?!? Awesome! 2 inch thick brown/beige head. Aroma is a a coffee punch in the face, but there is also LOADS of chocolate, and some roasty malts. mouthfeel is thick, and viscous. Flavour is so nice and balance between the coffee, and the chocolate, and the bitterness in the finish is there, and its not harsh at all, a nice compliment to the coffee. Talking with the bartender, they call this beer their "legal drug" and i second that!

Bottle, with ClarkVV. Real good nose, coffee, compost. Brownish black color, good brownish beige head that faded. Bitter sweet flavors same as aroma. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter, bitter finish . Great coffee finish. Great coffee Impy, totally unexpected treat from Clark. Thanks.
