Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

On CASK at Dieu Du Ciel Brewpub. Ok, wow, on CASK!?!? Awesome! 2 inch thick brown/beige head. Aroma is a a coffee punch in the face, but there is also LOADS of chocolate, and some roasty malts. mouthfeel is thick, and viscous. Flavour is so nice and balance between the coffee, and the chocolate, and the bitterness in the finish is there, and its not harsh at all, a nice compliment to the coffee. Talking with the bartender, they call this beer their "legal drug" and i second that!

Black, black, black, with a brown thick head that lasted pretty much for the whole drink. Sour aroma with chocolate, coffee, and some fruitiness (it was really smokey in the bar). Very interesting flavour that appears to be from a large amount of chocolate malt. However, with the amount of coffee in this drink, it’s hard to detect much else. Was this a coffee beer or a beer coffee? I love coffee, so this was good for me, but if you don’t like coffee, forget you ever heard about this beer. There was a bit of ethanol and higher alcohol flavours and some faint fruitiness; also some bitterness that might have been from hops or espresso beans. Tasting this beer began with an unpleasant sour and soft bitter sensation that was really difficult for me to tolerate. Once the beer goes down, though the flavour really hits. Extremely full body with good carbonation. Unfortunately this beer was mouth puckering for me with the bitterness and sourness (of the coffee) interplay.

Pours a dark motor oil black color with a thin creamy beige head. Aroma is dominated by fresh roasted coumbian coffee. Taste is ALL COFFEE. A very interesting imperial stout loaded with fresh roasted coffee flavor. Very unique and very good.

Bottle, with ClarkVV. Real good nose, coffee, compost. Brownish black color, good brownish beige head that faded. Bitter sweet flavors same as aroma. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter, bitter finish . Great coffee finish. Great coffee Impy, totally unexpected treat from Clark. Thanks.

Bottled. Banana split, cocoa powder, mocha and vanilla in the nose. Very smooth. Great chocolatey finish. A beer with plenty of character.

Bottle. Aroma powerful with coffee right out of the bottle, but becomes surprisingly subdued. Completely charred malts as well. In the mouth, it’s of course very coffee, but with those charred malts hanging around burning off the tongue. Some sweetish chocolate in the background, but I had to search to find it. A dry finish that feels odd to me in such a big, bold-flavored beer. Very good, very interesting.

Bottle. I absolutely loved this beer. Poured an obsidian black with a one finger brown head that lingered for the entirety of the beer, and produced a huge amount of lacing. Aroma of was of coffee....and lots of it. Also present were hints of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Flavor was intense coffee with a dry chocolate aftertaste. Body was slightly too thin to be rated a "5", but overall, one of the best impys I’ve had. If you don’t like coffee, this beer isn’t for you.

Courtesy boboski. Jet black. 2.5cm of dense, spongey, tan head. Huge roasty malt and burnt coffee with some resinous hops in the background. Flavors adds bittersweet cocoa, whole coffee beans, vending machine coffee, light smokiness. Intense coffee in this one. Full body, balanced. Excellent.
