Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

12oz bottle from WLV. Nose is somewhat subdued, a bit chalky and coffee. It is rich, though not super strong, if that makes sense. Peppery carbonation, prickly on the tongue. Very coffee in the back end, minimal cocoa. Deep black look with a fuzzy darkish brown head. Not perfect, but very tasty, nonetheless. As far as coffee stouts go, not in the top tier for me, though it is nice.

The aroma is a deep rich roasted coffee. The appearance is a deep black with a long lasting tan head. Mortel’s flavor is a rich and robust roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is full and deeply satisfying.

Huge thanks to Honkeybra for getting me this one. Crushed with Jakebra. Big dark fruits and coffee on the nose. The coffee blends beautifully in the flavor. It’s a little thin bodied, but fuck, it’s so good I’m not going to complain anymore. Roast, coffee, dark fruits. Fantastic brew.

Chocolate shake consistency with a 1/2 inch latte head. The aroma is of dark roasted coffee, charred malt, and a hint of cocoa. Flavor definitely exhibits a "burnt" or "heavily smoked" character. If you left this one in the glass overnight, it would definitely form a solid mass. A very good stout...excellent coffee-focused beer...but can’t hold a candle to the best.

2008 Bottle - Pours impossibly brown/black with a small tan head, aroma is burnt coffee, slightly hospital-like, that is the only negative...flavour is all coffee, bitter chocolate, more tobacco as it warms, leaves you with a great mouthfeel and bitterness in the back of your throat, glad I got a few to sit on, definite potential in the cellar...

12oz bottle. Thanks to drewbeerme for the bottle. Very dark pour of course with a dark brown head. Big coffee and chocolate aroma. Coffee bitterness in the flavor as well, very nice beer and I don’t even like coffee.

Anticipated this one for a while....Poured out a deep black color with a large tan head. The aroma is mostly coffee, with some other more subtle notes. The taste is once again primairly coffee, but at the same time is nice and complex showing notes of bitter-sweet chocolate and a very subtle hop flavor. Quite the interesting Imperial stout...
