| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Bottled chez Mes and Sim. Mes very generously offered to open this beer after I told him that strangely I don’t like coffee but, with the odd exception really like coffee beers. We drank it while watching some of Wayne Rooney’s greatest ever goals, and a rerun of the end of United beating Chelsea in the Champions League final of 2007-8. I’m not sure I’ve laughed so much watching football. "Red guy, red guy, blue guy, red guy" etc. The beer itself is one of those coffee beers ut’s easy to enjoy. Black with a slight beige head, and a great aroma of coffee but with noticeable hops. Big and hoppy in the mouth with coffee and burnt roasty milky malts. Really tasty and well brewed and even after a long day on the beer still a treat. Many thanks guys. Let me put you in the picture

Coffee (cold, day old coffee), ashes, licorice, charcoal in the nose, the coffee so dominating that I don’t sense beer. Intense flavour mixing coffee, chocolate, roast malt, and a touch of hop bitterness on a sweet background. A pleasant surprise after the aroma. But as always with flavoured and spiced beer, I prefer the flavouring subdued and the beer in the foreground. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 1, 2008 This is a beer I’ve waited a long time to rate, and I actually rate it with some trepidation, because I am convinced that the beer I am about to rate does not share absolute homology with the recipe of this beer that garnered the atmospheric ratings. Oh well. THe bottle is 12 ounces. The pour is deep black (very little light coming thorugh) with about a finger or so of tan head. The nose is roasty dark patent malt, molasses, dark choc, coffee, and some nutty and spicy undercurrents. The palate is pretty hefty, with no apparent heat until the very end, and flavors of dark malt, dark choc, french roasted coffee, molasses, anise, and cashews. Pretty smooth, and this one reminded me a little bit of a younger brother of Kentucky Breakfast, although what this one lacks a bit as far as aroma and flavor intensity it makes up for in spades in the smoothness and balance departments. All in all, this is a beer I’d gladly drink daily if I could. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
