Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Very dark color, with a thick creamy beige tan-colored foamy head, with a complex nose of vanilla, cacao, expresso, burnt coffee beans, mocha, dark chocolate and roasted malt aroma follows through on a medium to full bodied palate, very smooth and luscious, with black coffee, vanilla, mocha, burnt toasts, roasted coffe beans flavors leading to a bitter-sweet chocolate accent in a voluptuous thin alcoholic warmth soft bitter hop finish.

660 ml bottle bottled on 8/05 special thanks to pineypower. What a great beer. Pours darkest black with a brown head. Head pretty decent for an Imperial. Left decent lacing too. Aromas were coffee right off, then some chocolate and dark fruit came through. Chocolate covered cherries with coffee on the side. Flavors were were more coffee and rich roasty malts. A slightly bitter finish kept it all from being too sweet. Awesome stuff.

Bottle. 05 edition. Courtesy of RLB at Yeha and Bootopia. Aroma is coffee and light smoke. Pours black. Flavor was coffee as well with a tinge of hops. A nice hint of vanilla also seemed to swirl about nicely as well. Palate is full and delicious from the top to the bottom. This comes in just so smooth and eloquent. Must have!!

i finally get this off my wishlist (originally put on 9/18/2006) ... from LS .. lots of chocolate, tobacco, and coffee aroma’s ... great brad pitt lacing ... it really coats the mouth so wonderfully .. very nice aftertaste ... is roasty and has an espresso/ chocolate battle going on ... not overdone, but very bold .. a great brew!

English What a great beer to start my ratings. The Péché Mortel is simply a wonderful Imperial Stout. Drank in 341 mL bottle at room temperature. Pours a beer dark as night. Generous beige foam. Coffee and roasted cocoa aromas. In mouth, it’s like drinking a strong expresso with hints of black chocolate and roasted flavors. Leaves a sweet finish of long lasting vanilla. One of my favourite.

22oz bottle/draft/12oz bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Aroma is loads of coffee, chocolate, some etoh. The flavor is incredibly well blended coffee and some smoke with a good roasted but creamy flavor of chocolate. I love this time after time. 4.3 After having the 04 vintage at the 10th anniversary party and IMO the f’in stand out beer of the party i have to bump this a few points, this beer is truely phenominal when served in this manner. The fresh 12oz bottles cant stand up to the aging process. Awesome! 4.6
