I tried this beer on November 5, 2005 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was told about this beer from a bartender friend at another beer bar I frequent in the city. I will have to thank him for the recommendation.
The beer poured a blackish colour with brown at the edges with a thin light brown head. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate/cocoa. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, thich, and somewhat creamy. The flavour was a complex suite of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt.............followed by a bittering finish. An excellent beer. martin21 (155), Quebec city, Quebec, Canada

Aromatic coffee dominates, which is very good! Roastiness, strong, very well hopped. DalzAle (510), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 13, 2009 Bottle. Dark black pour with minimal carbonation. Aroma was espresso and not much else. Flavor was robust coffee and a little bit of vanilla on the finish. Very smooth and no notice of alcohol, which is surprising consifering the 9.5 ABV. Wish this one was easier to get and a little cheaper. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA

Amazing smells of toasted coconut, banana, coffee, vanilla, oatmeal, and bitter chocolate. Tastes mostly like that with some alcohol warmth and a nice bitter coffee finish. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Updated: May 24, 2009God they brew good beers! This one has the highest rating for a bottled Quebec-made beer. Englsh-Canada doesn’t have a single brew rated this high, I think... In your face! Although there are a lot of very high-rated imperial stouts on this site, very few are available in Québec. No stout whatsoever brewed in Québec is as good, only Bièropholie’s Impériale Stout comes a little close. Coffee dominates every other possible taste but there is a complexity of flavors in that rich and thick brew. The bitterness is quite obvious in the finish but the alchool, even at 9.5%, is barely distinguishable. Excellent beer! A must-try for any beer-loving Montreal tourist that has the well advised idea to visit the Dieu du Ciel Pub on Laurier street. At least a few of their brews ought to be tried... The stronger ones especially... cmonster (113), Portland, Oregon, USA

Appearance is midnight black, no head with minimal brown lacing. The sweet, complex aroma contains subtle raspberry and vanilla nut coffee notes. There is lively carbonation on the initial attack with a finish of dense chocolate fudge cake served with premium black coffee. Rich. Right near the top of my list. AlbertC (24), Göteborg, Sweden

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Bottle. Poured black with a small beige head. Aroma is loaded with espresso and a bit of acidic roasty malt. The flavor is as awesome as I could ever expect from a coffee beer. It has a high quality espresso taste backed up with chocolate and toasty malt stout flavor. Overall, this is a very biting, bitter, rich beer. It has a noticable alcohol warmth at the end and a rich, slightly oily feel in your mouth. Very, very good. I enjoyed this immensely with pumpkin pie and vanilla ice cream today.
