Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Great coffee flavor, with a hint of chocolate. Sweet yet pleasantly bitter at the same time. Pure black. Even putting it up to a lamp doesn’t let light shine through. The only color comes from the thick, creamy, light brown head. The alcohol is only apparent by the affect on your senses, not by the taste. I’ll get this again for sure!

Dark, but not the darkest beer i have had. The key here is that there is very little bitter for a imperial stout. It is coffee/dark chocolate flavor. But it is not bitter! very smooth very enjoyable. complex semi thick. Less bitterness than a cup of coffee. VERY VERY enjoyable!

Dark black pour, mocha head. Lots of dark roast coffee on the nose, backed by some small notes of caramel, dried fruits(dried cherries mostly), roasted malts. Taste is sublime, coffee is predominant. Solid bitterness. Me likey!

Really a great coffee flavour. I found it impossible not to take large gulps of this beer. Although coffee is the prominent flavour by far it is very interesting and complex and keeps you wanting more. A great beer.

From a 341 ml bottle. Color is almost pitch black. Very little carbonation in this particular bottle, but not a problem from my point of view. A coffee aroma. Flavor is very rich roasted malt and coffee. Evokes chocolate as well. Flavor improves as it warms up. Mouth feel is exquisite. Obviously a brew as rich as this one will have considerable aftertaste, and this one surely does. This is my new favorite stout, but I won’t be drinking a lot of it, as it’s pretty pricey in my neighborhood.

Pours a 2 finger chocolate head. Body is pitch black in color. Head retention and lacing are good Aroma of this beer is so good. Bitter coffee and espresso are main smells, sweet chocolate also there. Vanilla and licorice come through later. First taste is of bitter iced coffee. Burnt malts then come in with some warming alcohol. Hops also are present and add some additional bitterness to the coffee. As beer warms vanilla flavor becomes apparent Mouth feel is good. Carbonation is lively, especially for an imperial stout. Body is silky smooth and head provides some creaminess Over all very good beer. Love the strong coffee flavors mixed with the sweet malt. I love stouts and this is the best I’ve ever had, could drink it everyday

bottle. tasted out of snifter glass at near room temperature. pours a beautiful pitch black with a perfect brown mousse like head. aroma is of coffee, coffee and more coffee. the alcohol content is definately present in the aroma as well. flavour is sweet, followed by a perfect balance of bitterness. coffee dominates but roasted malts make their presence felt as well. nicely carbonated, and thick on the palate. overall this is an excellent imperial stout, one of my favorites. it is even better when served on tap at Dieu du Ciel.
