Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Black as sin. Held up to the light and NOTHING came through. Thick brown head. Amazing thick roasted coffee flavours soothe your taste buds and a very bitter and dry coffee finish leaves you wanting to drink more. Absolutely wonderful, I’m in heaven.

Perfection. Black as can be, smells and tastes gorgeous, a stunning example of its style. Overpowering flavor of coffee, but not in a bad way. Not as bitter as some other Imperial Stouts.

Excellent! Must be sipped very slowly at room temperature. The warmer it gets the better it taste. If you love coffee, you are going to love this beer. Let it linger in your mouth a few seconds before swallowing. This beer taste better when served in tulip shape glass.

The aroma is strongly of fresh ground, roasted coffee and chocolate malt. Faint licorice aroma detectable as well. It pours with a thin head that lasts a while. I held my glass up to a light and Peche Mortel was completely opaque and a deep black. The taste is immediately of superb coffe and sweet malt, followed by a chocolately middle and finishing again with coffee. Slight hints of licorice along with a complexity and depth of flavor. Very clean on the palate. My glass was left with fine and sexy lacing. An 11.5 ounce bottle left me completely satisfied. This is the coffee stout to which I will compare any future coffee beer I have. I enjoyed the very memorable flavors and absolutely no off notes. One of the best. A perfect 5 in that I cannot imagine how it could have been better.

Cask @ Volo. The cask version of this beer is such a different and superior beast than in bottle form. Aroma leaps out of the glass and is pure espresso, I spent more time smelling, than actual drinking. Taste is wonderful roasted coffee with some bitter chocolate notes. Mouthfeel is thick with an oily texture, nice soft natural carbonation adds to the smoothness and drinkability. Nice bitter aftertaste. One of my top beer experiences so far.

The perfect imperial stout and possibly even the perfect beer. A deep, menacing pour with a khaki colored head. Nose of espresso and secondary hints of cafe mocha made with dark chocolate - like sitting next to coffee being roasted. Flavor is what you would expect, given the aroma. Great mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced with intermingled sweetness and bitterness that slide gracefully between each other during different parts of the sip.

Damn I love this beer. Smells like freshly ground coffee and molasses. Pours black with a lasting tan head. Very strong, bitter, grainy coffee flavor with hints of sweet vanilla. Smooth, creamy mouth feel. No hint of alcohol whatsoever - very smooth, enjoyable and drinkable. Possibly the best beer I’ve ever had.

Many stouts with coffee flavors have come and gone but this one will stand the test of time. In this one the coffee flavor is very prominent, more so then any other that I’ve had. The color, and pour, is jet black, syrupy and runny. One of the best that I’ve had.
