He did not wish tribute, nor song, or monuments or poems of war and valor. His wish was simple. "Remember us," he said to me. That was his hope, should any free soul come across that place, in all the countless centuries yet to be, may all our voices whisper to you, from the ageless stones. Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here, by Spartan law, we lie
And, so my king died. And my brothers died, barely a year ago. Long I pondered my king’s cryptic talk of victory, but time has proven him wise. For from free Greek to free Greek, the word was spread, that bold Leonidas and his three hundred, so far from home, laid down their lives...not just for Sparta, but for all Greece! And the promise this country holds! Now here, on this ragged patch of earth called Plateaea, Xerxes’ hordes face obliteration!
Just there the barbarians huddle, sheer terror gripping tight, their hearts with icy fingers...knowing full well what merciless horrors they suffered at the swords and spears of 300! Yet they stare now across the plains...at ten thousand Spartans commanding thirty thousand free Greeks!
The enemy outnumber us a paltry three to one: good odds for any Greek. This day, we rescue a world from mysticism and tyranny and usher in a world brighter than anything we can imagine!
Give thanks men, to Leonidas and the brave 300! To victory!!

Aroma is huge, with loads and loads of coffee, chocolate, vanilla. The same notes return in the flavour, with a pleasant, warming alcohol sting, brown sugars, and it alternates being bitter and sweet several times in one sip. A lot of flavour. Lovely mouthfeel, full bodied and smooth. Wish I could have this more often. zizzybalubba (404), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA

Aroma is heavy of ground coffee beans, charcoal, and roasts. Palate is oily, thick, and lightly carbonated. I can’t get over how powerful the role of coffee is in shaping the complexion of this beer. Other than that, malt and roasts serve to "balance" out the flavor, adding depth and tastiness. Finishes quite bitter, of coffee, with a bit of alcohol, and long, long, long. Save yourself the shock and only drink this when you are feeling up for a potent blend of black espresso and and Impy stout. Oh, lastly, Peche Mortel gets exponentially more delicious as it warms . . . Proteus93 (66), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Jet black... suitable for a ’coffee stout.’ Head on here is HUGE and lasts into eternity. Medium sized bubbles are the only thing that keep it from being a silky cream. Very nice.
A nice, smooth, iced French Roast. A nod towards espresso aromas, and a fine, creamy chocolate scent.
A prime example of what a coffee stout should be, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know if I’d go QUITE so far as to say espresso, but certainly a fine dark roasted coffee. Little hints of the malts beneath it all sneak through, offering a touch of flavour diversity. Some hints of raisin sweetness and a light chocolate to top it off. Outstanding.
Rich, and just creamy enough for the style / flavours. The finish lingers on the palate forever, allowing each sip to be savoured for quite some time. An excellent beer, I prefer it over some others of a similar style such as Alesmith’s Speedway Stout or Southern Tier’s Jah-va. ABV makes it a sipper, but it’s a challenge!
