Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

This is 300 for me! Bought April 2008 in Philadelphia. Poured pitch black, like motor oil. Nice caramel head. Velvety and glistened on top. Nicely lacing the side of the glass the whole time. Aroma heavy of roasted coffee and malts. Taste of sweet roasted coffee. coffee hits first and subsides to oats in the end. As the beer warms in brings out more sweet caramel and vanilla notes. Warms throat as it goes down. Gives away to smooth velvety mouthfeel. Full bodies. Mild carbonation. This is the best coffee stout I have ever had!

(Bottle, Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 28 March 2008) Pitch black colour with a frothy, lasting, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with loads of freshly ground, heavil roasted coffee. Roasted, malty taste with the same loads of coffee, hints of chocolate and cocoa and a lovely coffee bitterness in the finish. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, hardly any traces of alcohol (but mind you, it’s 9,5%). Ok, it might be a bit one dimensional, but the mixture of the stout and the coffee is quite brilliant, it really comes together in perfect harmony. Truely a world class beer! Love it!

Pours like two stroke oil, coating the glass. Dark tan head forms, starchy nose. The coffee shows up on the palate, creamy middle, bitter hops finish. This really was easy to drink, all things in balance.

341ml bottle, no idea where this came from. Pours opaque with a tan head that fell similar to a brew that had nitro pushing it. awesome aromas of fresh coffee, plum, raisin, and licorice. One of the best beers of the year for me.

Wow is this a coffee experience. Very black, small head. Compared to many of the reviews I got much less coffee aroma than many. The coffee flavor was perfect however. I tasted this with my brother (thanks Chris) and would have bet him there was much less alcohol. The 9.5% is perfectly disguised. One of the best beers I’ve tried

(Bottle, thanks JCapriotti) Pours black with a small brown head. Intense aromatic coffee bean aroma with vanilla ice cream, green pepper, jalapenos, dusty clothes, ash and parsley. Undertones of cocoa beans. Wonderful coffee bean flavour with a fantastic balanced sweetness. Gently burned. Some vanilla and parsley in the flavour as well. Some green pepper. Tiny hints of creamy dark chocolate. Coffee dry, oily, smooth mouthfeel. Hints of minerals. Near full body. Not overly complex but by far the best coffee Imp out there.

Pitch black with creamy tan foam. the strong coffee and chocolate aroma is well balanced with the malt and hop. Some dark fruit emerge after a while . Of course, the coffe dominates the overall flavor but it is really well made. Where is that 9.5%. A great brew (especially at -20 C outside...).
