Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

11.5oz bottle. Big coffee aroma. Opaque black with a patchy, soapy head. Super smooth on the palate, with a considerable coffee finish. The sweet malty alcohol is exceptionally balanced with the chocolaty coffee tastes. Really comes off smooth, mellow carbonation and silky malt profile. I thought Redhooks Double Black was the definitive Coffee Stout but this one really makes a case for itself. Maybe not quite as rich Coffee-wise as the DB Excellent stuff, highly recommended.

Bottle. Jet black pour with a very small frothy head. Aroma FULL of Dark, dark chocolate and heavy, rich, black coffee. Upon tasting I was absolutely delighted that a "stout brewed with coffee" finally delivered! Thick and delicious! Think of oily, cold-press coffee, that isn’t cut with water. There’s just not some coffee hidden in the background, this beer has coffee featured at the forefront, they way it should be. Very happy and impressed. It lived up to the hype, and is one of the best coffee beers I have every had.

Pours an opaque black espresso color with thick rich tan colored head that dissipates. Aroma is dense to the point where not much overpowers. Aroma is roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is coffee but the flavor that comes from the rich head of the espresso. There is a thick sweetness that is present that reminds me of a caramelized brown sugar or a simple syrup. Definitely notes of bittersweet chocolate beans. The flavors blended together remind me of a rich mocha that is not taken over by sugar but deep espresso and bittersweet chocolate. Truly an intense imperial stout. Very happy with it.

11.5oz bottle from CBX. pours a lovely, slightly thick onyx, with a thin, dark cocoa head and a ring of lace. aroma is absolutely wonderful with huge roast coffee and espresso notes, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and the slightest hint of vinous red fruits. flavor is truly spectacular with huge, bitter, dark roasted coffee and german chocolate cake up front, backed by notes of roasted pistachio, plantains, brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal, vanilla beans, and a touch of smoked wood leaving a long, bittersweet, roasted coffee finish. palate smooth and full bodied with medium carbonation. overall, one of the best damn coffee stouts out there.

Beautiful black color. Awesome coffee, fine tobacco and fruity bubble gum aroma, with hints of spice and red pepper. The flavor is smoooooth coffee, probably expresso, with a complimentary amount of malty vanilla sweetness. I just loved it, and am giving the first 10 I have ever given for flavor. I must put up a couple of these for special occasions.

Pours a very murky oily deep rich black with a small ring tan of head that recedes into a wispy ring of foam bubbles. Big malty nose, yields a very tannic aroma of dark fruits, alcohol, milk chocolate and sweet creamy coffee. What an amazingly heavy and heavenly mouthfeel. Rich and creamy cocoa and coffee. This is so delicious, oily and smooth, with just a hint of vanilla and bourbon like heat. Nicely balanced with a roasty coffee acidity.

12 oz bottle. Didn’t think much when General66 picked this up, then he showed me the rating. Then I read the description. Wowzers. Pours a dark black with a finger high tan head that is very thick and dissipates slowly. Smells SO strongly of fresh brewed coffee I uttered an obscenity. The smell is THAT impressive; and yet, smooth. Beautiful roasted coffee smells that tickle the nose and make you want to smell it more and more. Tastes (and god I am excited by this point) of the best coffee you have ever had in your life, not too strong, not too bitter, not too smooth, but very natural. Honestly this is an amazing beer, and one of my all time favorites.
