Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Excellente bière brassée par des gens extraordinaires. Douce et aggresive à la fois elle ne laisse personne d’indifférent à son arôme et son post-goût torréfié.

Bottle. Poured Deep midnight black with a beautiful chocolate head that laced profusely. Aroma was predominantly chocolate syrup, vanilla, oak, and coffee. Sexy. Flavor was chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, oaky phenolic finish. Palate was slightly viscous but lighter than I expected given the syrupy aroma and visibily thick body. Also had a little bite at the end but nothing to worry about. Very good beer.

Pours BLACK, even when held up to the light, no hints of any other colour. Head is khaki coloured, two fingers deep and clings to my glass for dear life. Aroma is coffee big time up front and in your face. Hints of chocolate, licorice, earthy tones, some soft fruits, a touch of alcohol, fresh brownies, and berries. In the mouth it’s a full frontal assault on the palate. Now I like my coffee black, and this is like taking Turkish coffee and adding a shot if espresso to it. Man is this beer intense! Like chewing on a coffee bean. Hints of chocolate, licorice, soy sauce, red berries, a hint of caramel on the finish with a little bit of oak. Mouth feel is lively and pleasant for the style. This beer punishes your palate every chance it get and you just keep coming back for more. Great beer!

Think stong chocolate coffee aroma. Pours think with a nice head. Very stong coffee nose. Not a session beer. Great desert beer. Great match with chocolate.

very strong coffee and chocolate aroma! deep black color with a mocha head and thick lacing. flavor starts with chocolate and ends with a heavy slightly bitter coffee taste. espresso aftertaste lingers on nicely...excellent beer!

11.5oz bottle. Pours dark with minimal foam. However carbonation is still appropriate. Served a little too cold, flavor was not immediately all there but as this brew warmed to the correct serving temperature the flavor intensified. Great beer will have to try to get my hands on a 22 oz bottle because I am told they are slightly better to age.

Bottled oct 2007 making it 1½ years old. Close to black. No transparancy at all. Nice small lasting light brown head. Definately coffee on the nose, but that kind of African coffee with a peppermint like smell. There is some vanilla, is this a trace of barrel aging?. Very smooth on the tongue, and the alcohol is well hidden. The smoothness I find is often there in high quality stouts. It is really not more of everything but lots of everything, just balanced to not throw anything in your face. Wauw this is good stout.
