Coffee, coffee, and coffee aromas and a good bit of roastyness. Extremely inviting so far! Intense coffee flavor with some good bitterness on the back of the tongue. Rolls happily along in my mouth. Has a long, flavorful finish. I’m already sad it’s gone. clubchat (9), Sullivan, Quebec, Canada does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Excellente bière brassée par des gens extraordinaires. Douce et aggresive à la fois elle ne laisse personne d’indifférent à son arôme et son post-goût torréfié. sleestak (191), Williamston, Michigan, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Une bottle. Pours ebony with a pinkie-high brown head that devolves into a crescent-shaped slick. Massive aroma of chocolate mousse and strong coffee. Drool. Taste is an amazing melding of creamy coffee and dark chocolate. Finish is mildly bitter and warmingly boozy. Lighter in body than any other RIS I’ve tasted, and strangley effervescent. (Not fizzy or anything, just surprisingly lively for a stout.) An all around amazing beer for the coffee generation. BgThang (118), Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 26, 2009 11.5 oz bottle, pours a nice dark to opaque color. Has a huge head of tiny fine bubbles. Has a mocha brownish head also
Aroma is pure roasted coffe with hint of sweetness and choclate. I also got some raisin and dark fruits in there.
Body is pretty full to me with some nice carbonation
Taste is rich and silky. Maybe some oatmeal in there for that. After the initial taste as it rolls on the back of the palate you start to get the dark fruits and hops to come through.
This is a nice coffee stout. Thanks to jonathan for sharing this.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 22, 2009 How can I even begin to describe this beer? A true gem of coffee beers. While not as buzzy as others, the ABV is well noted. Its bitter chocolate coffee, also known as mana from heaven. KyotoLefty (1465), Kyoto, Japan
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Bottle at Volo, Toronto. Like a big, smokey, malted coffee milkshake. Flavors of smoke, wood, coffee, cream, sweet malt, burnt barley, and something like gin. Super complex. I would cut back the coffee just a touch, but hey, I’m a tea man. Dieu du ciel, these beers are hard to find in Ontario! bblack99 (214), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 14, 2009 This beer is ridiculously good, even if you aren’t a coffee addict. Bottle poured jet black and opaque into a Koenigshoeven glass under a perfect cap of milk-chocolate colored frothy head.
Hands down, this is the best SMELLING beer ever. Super-punchy aroma of coffee, but not just a single bean. This literally smells like the aisle of different coffees in a supermarket, with lots of depth and no cream or sugar watering them down. There’s a touch of dark chocolate, maybe even a bit of burnt dark chocolate, which takes a more predominant role in the flavor.
Ah, the flavor. If I *were* a coffee junkie, this would probably hit a 10 with me. Since I’m not, the assault of roasted black coffee and toasty chocolate was just good, not great. Surprisingly drinkable with a light-medium body, the ABV really does come through only after the bittersweet flavors upfront fade out, and of course in the warming redness in your cheeks.
Dieu du Ciel > Unibroue as far as best Canadian brew, and it’s not even close, people. Go buy one of these babies, it’s worth every bit of the $5. hobbersr (412), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Pours BLACK, even when held up to the light, no hints of any other colour. Head is khaki coloured, two fingers deep and clings to my glass for dear life. Aroma is coffee big time up front and in your face. Hints of chocolate, licorice, earthy tones, some soft fruits, a touch of alcohol, fresh brownies, and berries. In the mouth it’s a full frontal assault on the palate. Now I like my coffee black, and this is like taking Turkish coffee and adding a shot if espresso to it. Man is this beer intense! Like chewing on a coffee bean. Hints of chocolate, licorice, soy sauce, red berries, a hint of caramel on the finish with a little bit of oak. Mouth feel is lively and pleasant for the style. This beer punishes your palate every chance it get and you just keep coming back for more. Great beer!
