Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Pours jet black with a milk chocolate head. Intense roasted coffee nose to this one. A bitterness, intense dark roast coffee and just a great beer all the way around. The alcohol is very well hidden with the other massive flavors that come to the forefront

Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a nice light brown head that lasted. Aroma is of coffee and more coffee. Also some chocolate on the nose as well. Taste is of strong coffee and some caremel. Very well balanced and enjoyable. the abv is covered quite well. Very rich and smooth. Def on of my top 10.

Pours opaque jet black, with the merest hint of the suggestion of red highlights at the edges. Tan, almost reddish head that disappears into a lingering film. Aroma: notes of coffee, rum, port, roast malt, with hazelnut and dark chocolate as it warms. Flavour: strong coffee flavour, complemented by a nicely balanced sweetness. Plenty of dark roasty bite, but not unpleasantly astringent. Finishes with plenty of dark chocolate nuttiness. Port. For a beer this strong, it hides its alcohol well. Until it warms up, I would never have put this beer at 9.5. Not at all harsh, even when the alcohol starts to come out. Chocolate milkshake mouthfeel. Just enough carbonation to enliven it. Wonderful.

Yep, this is coffee beer alright. Deep dark pour with bubbly dark tan head. Hit the spot when I was fading last night. Best word to describe it is bitter. Bitter in a good way. Coffee grounds and intense dark chocolate on the nose and on the palate. Somehow still a bit sweet, hitting more on the back of the palate. Almost a burnt brown sugar/syrup aftertaste. A little good must, too.

12 oz bottle. Poured as black as could be, thick, like motor oil thick. Nose was huge, coffee, vanilla, chocolate. Taste that followed was similar. This beer is the real deal stout, delicious and so drinkable. Top notch beer

Wow. I absolutely adore coffee beers, and this one wins for the BLACKEST coffee taste. A ton of espresso. (Pisgah Valdez still wins for most coffee taste.) A bit too much carbonation, as it stings a bit on the tongue. Maybe a good thing with all the dark chocolate (DARK) and coffee taste. The sweetness has no chance against this bitterness, and the aftertaste goes on for days. Just breathing in and out after you take a sip brings you happiness. Maybe a bit much for

Bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a murky dark brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is slightly musty with notes of roasted coffee, chocolate, some faint caramel and toffee sweetness. Flavor is malty and roasted with notes of coffee, chocolate, toffee, raisins, some ripe dark fruits, caramel and hints of molasses. Generally full body with a pleasing roasted coffee finish.

smells like barbecue, acrid burnt wood, coffee, cigarette butts, but not in a bad way... absolutely opaque brown with a small beige head. woah, intense flavour and feel, body like turkish coffee dregs, taste is burnt malt, coffee grounds, just a powerful taste, interesting tangy hopping and black licorice. awesome
