Strong coffee aroma... it almost sends an alarm where you think they may have overdone it. But drinking it clears any doubts; the balance is perfect. Mighty dark and complex appearance. Has nice feel to it, with the perfect level of thickness and carbonation to go with the rest of the beer. Very impressive. Leighton (298), New York, New York, USA

When my friend poured this beer, I immediately smelled the intense coffee aromas and noted the thick consistency. As he poured, it looked like tar and smelled like earth. In the glass, the beer was pitch black with a thick, fluffy beige head. The aromas smacked of expresso and mocha, along with dirt. The flavor was incredible. Rich, robust coffee with some notes of almond and hazlenut. Strong bitterness from the coffee beans but still some sweet, burnt malt presence. Finish is mildly bitter and smooth. Medium carbonation and a velvety mouthfeel. Truly a remarkable beer. Todeon (315), Sweden

Ralph served this and said, this is the first bottle of Peche Mortel legally sold in Ontario. Crazy. The beer is crazier, especially for one in which coffee is added, as it still remains incredibly well balanced. With our cheese and apricot jelly/chutney it was unreal. Smooth, thick mouthfeel; tremendous aroma and super complex layers of coffee, roasted flavours. Magnifique! MeisterBrew (138), Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a thick black with a very nice sized tan head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, coffee, and roasted malts. Flavor is out of this world... coffee mainly with a sweet cherry like backside that is really pleasant. I love this stout. I could drink this everyday, all day if it weren’t for the price. poured at about 5 deg celcius from a bottle to a maudite glass, this beer holds the black. no light bleeding through. the head is a nice tan. thick and creamy. isn’t sustained too well, however. diminishes to thin rather quickly. aroma rapes your nostrils with coffee and black chocolate. malts have a strong toasted scent. tickles my nose. after the first sip, i feel a sweetness. the bitter dark chocolate is present, but not overwhelming. the aftertaste is quite prominent, however not hated. you can feel this sh*t warming your stomach! besides the gut warming awesomeness, no presence of alcohol. this beer is super! coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 17, 2009 No light can penetrate the blackness that this liquid has. Truly black. Very nice dark tan colored thick two-fingered head of dense foam. Good retention. Excellent ’curtain-like’ lacing. Not so much ’lace’, as it is more like a solid sheet of film. Excellent!
Very nice hefty malt nose. A small swirl brings out notes of dark fruit. Light coffee scent is present, though not as much as expected.
Big dark malts mixed with espresso shots hit you first. Chocolate notes mingle with dark fruit sweetness. An ever so light hint of vanilla kind of levels things out to a very nice balance.
Very nice and silky in the mouth. Creamy smooth, yet light.
Excellently drinkable. I can’t argue with so many before who have rated this brew so highly. It truly is worthy of it’s praise.

Taste is like black coffee with some chocolate and roasted malts. Very, very good! Creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol was well hidden at first, but started to become noticable after the beer warmed up. Overall this is excellent, one of the best stouts I’ve had.
