Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

very dark pour with thick foamy brown head. intense coffee and cocoa aroma backed by vanilla, oak, and brandy. very nicely balanced flavor of sweet coffee and a mild fruity alcohol bitterness. when it warms it’s a bit nuttier and some more coffee-bitterness is unveiled. just a bit thin -- though that helps keep it drinkable -- with a heavy oily-ness and long brown sugared coffee finish.

It poured a pitch black liquid with a small light brown foam that left some lacing. It had a strong smell of primarily coffee, but also chocolate, toffee and an interesting smell that I couldnt quite distinguish, probably related to the added coffee. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with a thick body and medium bitterness. The bitterness was more of a coffee and dark chocolate bitterness then a hoppy bitterness. It had a strong taste of coffee but also chocolate, coconut and something burned and roasted. A fantastic beer! It felt complex and interesting to drink, perfect to sit and sip at for a while. I’m not a big fan of coffee and don’t normally drink it, but this was really nice. Definitely recommended and at this price it’s an absolute steal (34 SEK at Systembolaget). Just as with Rigor Mortis I hope to get a couple of extra bottles.

Bottle at the Dilly Deli. An amazing beer. The pour is opaque with an impressive dark tan head that hung around for quite awhile. Flavors of roasted malts, dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee blend together to created a complex and tasty imperial stout. The alcohol is well hidden by all the roast. Very good.

33 cl bottle, Mulmur, ON, Canada. Deep brown, almost non existent head. Heavy coffee aroma with some faint bitter chocolate and prunes. Full bodied, no alcohol detectable until the fnish. Bitter and warming with a long dry almost sherry-like end.

bottle from my local. Thick black pour with a tiny mocha head. Coffee bomb aroma! Big coffee taste with a bit of chocolate, vanilla, and graham crackers??? Mediumish mouthfeel with a smooth finish that leaves me wanting more.

Bottle. Poured black with thick creamy beige head. Full aroma of chocolate malt, coffee and roast. Coffee, nutty and malty flavour, very big bodied. Lasting malt and coffee finish. There is enough hop, just enough to keep this from being cloying.

Cask @ Volo. The cask version of this beer is such a different and superior beast than in bottle form. Aroma leaps out of the glass and is pure espresso, I spent more time smelling, than actual drinking. Taste is wonderful roasted coffee with some bitter chocolate notes. Mouthfeel is thick with an oily texture, nice soft natural carbonation adds to the smoothness and drinkability. Nice bitter aftertaste. One of my top beer experiences so far.
