Commercial Description:
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

At the brewpub, a cross between a Belgium and an old ale. Very cloudy amber with great lacing, yeasty aroma, Full mouthfeel. Very drinkable and tasty. The clear winner here tonight, and it has been around for a fair bit. Some cholate malt. Well crafted.

Draft at DDC. Wow was this stuff awesome, I drank a bunch of these over the course of several nights and each one was better then the last. It’s rather dark in DDC so this beauty might of been a 5 for appearance but I’d rathat hold back slightly then bump up a rating. Poured a super deep dark brown, almost black, with ,some red hues on the edges and a medium size foamy off white head. Aroma is phenomenal lots of yeast, brwon sugar, dark fruit, banana and a slight touch of bread. Perfect palate mdium-full bodied, light carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. I can’t speak highly enough of this one or for DDC for that matter. I can’t wait for their bottled bers to make it to the U.S.

On Tap, 30-Aug-2007 only offered in 12 ounce tulip cups. This beer was not offered when I was there on Monday. Eat your heart out Dorwart.......wish you were here to enjoy this! Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Smells of banana, bread, spice and wood. Taste is sweet and complex. A wonderful mix of fruit. Some prunes and rasins come through. Great mouth feel. The 10% ethanol is well hidden in this gem. This is a complimentde by a generous dose of hops. Possibly the best beer I’ve ever had. Rather than trying another of Dieu Du Ciel!’s fine selection I came back to this beauty.
