Slightly hazy burnt-orange color with a large head. Aroma of brown sugar, toffee and bananas. Sweet taste, medium heavy body. Ends brown sugar sweet with a little touch of alcohol.
Loses a lot from the alcohol and the fact that I don’t appreciate banana yeast as much as some. iowaherkeye (1873), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2009 $4.99 @ Discount Liquor, no date. Hazy brown with a 1 1/2 finger beige head, good retention. Belgian yeast, caramel, dark candi sugar, some sweet figs and raisins are all up front. There is also some peppery alcohol and cocoa. Flavor had some slight tobacco notes and stronger chocolate. Thankfully, it didn’t get too sweet, which is always my problem with other countries trying their hand at stronger Belgian styles. Semi-dry finish with light alcohol burn. Full body with light carbonation. Very good beer. oteyj (796), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 16, 2009 Extremely dark brown with red ruby quite evident. One finger white head lasts well. Aroma is raisin, caramel, and lots of overall dark fruit. Residual sugars are prevalent, and the yeast character is quite unique. Palate is thick and full... smooth and sugary. Semi-dry sugar coating finis. Excellent example of the style. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Bottle from grapes of mirth. Pours a pretty clear dark brown color with not much of a head at all. Aroma was very complex. Fig, cherry, chocolate, alcohol, malts, and other fruits. Left a little burn in the mouth but overall pretty smooth for the strength just not as easy to drink as the belgian renditions. pineypower (1104), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours out brown with ruby hues and a small lacing off white head. Very nice aroma of dark fruits, caramel, spice, yeast and some nice sweetness in there, very good aroma. Taste is complex and has a lot going on, dark fruits, namely fig and dried cherries, chocolate, yeast, slight alcohol and a little bitterness hanging in there. Very complex and definitely one of the best non-Belgian quads I’ve had. Would love to find another bottle. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 13, 2009 Pour brown with some deep garnet hues on the edge. There’s also a lasating dirty white head. The nose has some dark fruits, chewy chocolate candy, and a bit of snappy hops. Plenty of belgian yeast character and alcohol too. Huge and robust flavors here. I get dates and cherries. I get peppery yeast. I get chewy chocolaty goodness. Full body with a warm alcohol and malty sweet finish. This is truely a pleasure to drink.
