| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Pros: Really nice look. Nice layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Fully formed head lasts well. Flavor is terrifically extracted, loaded with flavor. Rich all around, it even finishes well. Notes of chocolate, pit fruit and raisin. Excellent mouth feel. Well hidden alcohol.
Cons: Aroma is muted, but this could be due to the lack of bottle age.
A beautiful bottling of ale, no doubt about it. One I plan on aging extendedly. This is one of the best examples of the style to come out of North America. rodenbach99 (708), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 29, 2009 Updated: Sep 23, 2009Bottle.Tasted blind with hobbersr against Rochefort 10, Westy 12, and Chimay Blue. Dominated the tasting, WTF? Pours a big, rich, thick off-white head with good lacing. Beer is a rich slightly hazy brown. Araoma is classically Belgian, with fig, coffee, pineapples, licorice, apples, pears, a bit of brandyish booze, straight up fruitcake as it warms, along with oranges/marmalade. Palate is drier than the nose, with a lovely sourness, big richness, malty, yeasty, complex, outstanding! Creamy mouthfeel, raisin, cherries and chocolate, mild brandy, cake, rum. A constantly-shifting kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors. I really beleived this was the Westy, almost shit myself when it turned out to be the Belgian Pretender. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2009 Bottle: The aroma consists of dark fruits, grapes, raisins, faint chocolate, and some alcohol. It pours a dark orangish-brown with some transparency through the sediment and a small beige head. The flavor starts with dark fruits, grapes, and a hint of chocolate. There’s a light fruity tanginess in the background. The finish has moderate raisin and alcohol (flavor and warmth). Medium bodied with soft and somewhat lively carbonation. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 25, 2009 Pours a dark brown with no head. Aroma is faint - coffee? Taste is almost stout-like - coffee, and roasted malt, some caramel. Odd flavors for a Quadruple. Still, there is a slight fruitiness to this one - plums mostly. Alcohol is noticeable - burns once it hits the stomach. Another great beer from Dieu du Ciel. Shit, I didn’t age this for six months . . . guess I’ll have to get more.
