Appearance was muddy dark with very little head and no lacing. Smell was light spice, dark fruit and alcohol. Taste was very sweet, combo of caramel and butterscotch. Really shows its strength, not really in a pleasant way. Mouthfeel was solid. Nice enough, but a bit challenging o drink because of the aggressiveness of the alcohol flavor.

Heavy nose of sugars, butter caramel and candy for this light brown ABT. Thick body, very sweet, lots of caramel notes and a little butterscotch. Pretty intense and a little too much of sweetness for me. Maybe aging will improve its drinkability, but for now a third of a bottle is enough for my liver... Not a bad beer! Just too straightforward sugary for me.

Serving: 11.5 oz. bottle. Appearance: Slightly hazy, deep amber color with a slight, foamy, light tan head. Aroma: Powerful nose with sweet, ripe stone fruit, yeast, slight floral notes, and a bit of spice Flavor: Rich and creamy with notes of vanilla, ripe fruit, pear, plum, a bit of raisin, yeast, very light caramel, spices, and a touch of alcohol. Wow! Palate: Medium-high, very soft carbonation with a rich, almost creamy mouthfeel and a medium-long, spicy sweet finish. Overall: This is a spectacular brew that is highly recommended and a must try.

11.5oz bottle via trade with zathrus13. thanks, Jeff! pours a beautiful, deep cherry-wood brown with a thin, creamy light khaki head. aroma is excellent with sweet dark fruit notes of black cherry, plum, fig, and red wine with hints of yeasty funk, brown sugar, and bready malts. flavor is great as well with smooth, sweet dark malts, toffee, sweetbread up front with vinous red fruits, tart cherries, and plums through the middle with cedar wood and belgian spice notes of cinnamon and clove on the finish. palate is full bodied but crisp and bubbly with pleasant alcohol warmth and a lingering, sweet, earthy finish. overall, another great brew from dieu du ciel.

Bottle, shared. Pours a deep brown with a small but creamy white head. Aroma is dark fruit - raisin, plum, fig - with malt and even a bit of alcohol detectable as well. Sugary sweetness with malt up front, though I also detected some dark fruit in there, with a fruity and sweet aftertaste. Alcohol is there but it doesn’t take away from the overall experience. I love my quads, and this is a solid example of the style.

Reviewed 8/2/2009 (bottled): Pours a dark brown colored body with a small creamy whitish head, somewhat lasting. Strong aroma of dark fruit, fig and plum. Some alcohol too. Creamy mouthfeel, some warmth. Dark fruit in the taste too. Some acidic bitterness. Some more sugary sweetness as it warms up. Some roasted flavors too, more as it warms.

Murky, pondwater brown with a thin (and thinning) off-white bubbly head. Smells funky and yeasty with a little red wine/grape. Flavors are the typical belgian mix, but with complex layers on top, red grapes, cherry, liquor, more liquor, booze, liquor...(get it?), and candy sugar sweetness.

12 ounce bottle from my summer secret Santa. Pours a dark bronze color with a thin tan head. Moderate head retention and lacing. Aroma is very malty with notes of brown sugar, bread, berries, plum, yeast. Taste is toffee, brown sugar, bread, alcohol, berries, plum, cherry, maple syrup, leafy hops and chocolate. Medium-full bodied. Slightly warm and very smooth. Very good beer. Dieu du Ciel! impresses yet again. A worthy choice for my 2300th rating.
