12 oz bottle: Hazy mohogany brown w/a lasting light beige, medium sized head. Malty and a bit musty at first whiff. Peppery spice, burnt roasted malt, hints of chocolate. Light rose floral and plum esters. Bready and fresh crushed pale malt aromas in the nose as well. A touch of an acidic note in the very deep nose. Sweet up front, malty flavored with toasted, caramel, and hints of chocolate malt. Peppery yeast is light as is the plum fruitiness, but also the floral flavor. A bit of earthy hop mid palate into the finish. Drier finish with a light astringency and very light bitterness in the very finish into the aftertaste. Some toffee and molasses notes as well. Medium bodied, medium CO2, warming, but mostly well hidden alcohol adds to the dryness of the beer. Smooth up front. Overall a really nice beer! Very well put together. I think I should have saved this as a victory beer after I finish walking the Breast Cancer 3 Day on Sunday, when I might feel like I have Rigor Mortis after walking 60+ miles over the weekend... Nah, I’ll be fine!

Dec 18, 2009 tasted in trappiste glass. pours a murky, brown colour with a quickly dissipating off white head. aroma is of grapes, dried fruits, lots of yeast. flavour is full, very spicy with notes of toffee. goes down smooth, with a slight alcohol burn on the finish, expected at 10.5% abv. this beer is extremely complex, lots going on in here.

Dec 18, 2009 Pours to a deep brown murky body with a creamy but mostly dissipating white head. The aroma is very much an abbey ale. Treacle and tobacco with earthy yeasts. Bananas foster. The flavor is earthy and yeasty with bananas and baked plantains. The palate is a bit over carbonated. Medium-full bodied and nice deep texture really brings it together.

Dec 15, 2009 Yeast, alcohol, maybe even raisins or perhaps other dried fruit on the aroma. Full, rich flavour – nothing overpowering, mind – that’s a bit sweet but not overpowering so. Also some warming alcohol on the finish. More dried fruit and rye bread to boot.

Dec 14, 2009 Bottled. Dark, cloudy brown pour, tan head. Vinous, malty nose. Flavor was malt, yeast, alcohol, cherry, raisins. Bitter finish.

Dec 13, 2009 This truly is one of the greatest beers on the planet(possibly in the universe). I never believed in the gods before, but now i thank them for every day i can get down to Chancey’s and sample another one of these. This is better than any other Abt(obviously in my opinion). The first one i had i could do nothing but stare down the glass as people around tried to converse with me. I will not describe to you this beer, words seriously fail me here. Get your ass out there and try this fucking beer.

Dec 13, 2009 Updated: Dec 14, 2009’09 bottle, thanks to 17thfloor! pours dark reddish brown with creamy off white head around the rim. the aroma has a lots of prunes up front with spicy yeast notes in the background. flavors have a great balance of spicy yeast, sweet dark fruits (figs and raisins), caramel, with a finish of mild spicy alcohol. full bodied brew. a tasty example of the style and it belongs at the same table with the other great abts.

Dec 12, 2009 Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours a brown color with a nice white head which remains until the beer is finished. Aroma is toffee, cocoa, spices, candy and some dried fruit. Flavour is sweet, with a very nice malt profile, though not supercomplex. There’s toffee, buttery cocoa (a bit like blending cocoa, butter and sugar to bake a cake of it), candy and spices. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Fullbodied. Very smooth mouthfeel, which is rather soft for the style. A tasty beer, which hopefully will develop more complexity after a year or so.
