| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Draft at the Brewery. Deep amber with offwhite head. Nose of bitter piney hops, grapefruit hops, and toasty malt. Flavor is malt-forward, nice and toasty, with nice bitterness throughout, and some citrus sweetness showing up in the finish. The hops were a touch soapy on the finish. Full and creamy throughout, very enjoyable. I have a hard time believing it was 9%. HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA

Aroma reminiscent of several East Coast Double IPA’s (Wailing Wench, Big A), big malts and equal hops, with toffee, chocolate and berries, along with fat, resinous, citrusy hop cones, and a hint of plum and banana peel. Quite the intoxicating blend. Flavor is pretty equally balanced, sweet with a nice malt flavor and a nice bitterness and hop flavor. Quite rich, with a strong alcohol flavor, but fitting. Head is mostly lasting.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), moderately hoppy (resin).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Pretty typical/straightforward aroma for the style, but it’s quite nice in all other categories...well balanced, and doesn’t shred your palate like many American IPAs. Aubrey should enjoy this one.
