Appearance is a brown ruby, with a foamy light tan head. Taste is pretty malty, with caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, and wheat. Decent beer, but the aroma just wasn’t very pleasant at all. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 22, 2004 This beer is MUCH better than their cd-pils. It has less of that cloying sweetness, and even if it had as much, it would be more appropriate for the dark beer. This has a really nice aroma, there would be no mistaking its German heritage even with a blindfold on. The flavor is good too, definitely German and it even has a slight smoke note that I find enjoyable. It tastes like some of the lesser, but still good, German doppelbocks. I do not know the ABV on this, I am sure that it is not near a doppel, but it has that taste. A drawback here, as with the cd-pils, is a thin, watery mouthfeel. But considering that this is a macro, it is downright drinkable. Otherwise this is a stellar beer, with a potent cherry-wood flavor and aroma, smooth body and plesant after taste. If you cannot taste this beer, please consult your doctor immediately. From the bottle, and especially from the tap, this beer is top notch. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

It doesn’t look like a flavorless watery lager/pilsener from Germany, but guess what.......There is some malt flavor there and some caramelt, but it tastes like it was added to 11 ounces of water. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2004 Kind of a boring beer to me. It had a nice dark amber color with a creamy white head that quickly disappeared. Malty flavor, slightly roasty, and malty aroma. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA

Well-toasted sweet malt aroma with some fruitiness and chocolate. Flavor is very malty and bready with notes of chocolate and nuts. Medium body with some mild chalkiness. A decent dunkel.
