I go back to this one now and then as I have since forst trying 20 some odd years ago. Not as impressed as I was then, but it's a solid, well balanced beer that is very easy to drink. Now. who can tell me what brew this brewery put in their 5L mini kegs? cstuartj (316), Washington, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Mar 17, 2004 Overly sweet, and annoyingly bright is what came to mind as I worked my way through this beer. I don’t use the word ‘worked’ lightly, this beer was not my cup of tea and it was work to finish it off. Everything here is muted by the sticky thick sweetness and large ABV hiding behind it, no complex hops, no deep roast, not even the dominate subtleties of yeast that often accompany a good doppleboch style beer. In all fairness this is not an awful beer, but way waste your time when there are so many truly great beers out there? beastdog75 (337), Brick, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2004 A nice, sweet dunkel lager. Not really complex and the sweetness might put some people off, but a very quaffable beverage. The notes of molasses do seem to be the focus here, and the hop bitterness isn't at all that developed. Better than Beck's Dark or St. Pauli Girl Dark.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 26, 2004 Pours a dark brown with an off white head that quickly dissapates, no lace really. Sweet malts, toffee and some floral hops in the nose. Again, toffee and sweet malts are dominating the flavor. More citrus hops this time and a touch of alcohol. The body is fairly thick, the palate slightly spicy and a finish of bitter hops and alcohol. BückDich (4848), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2004 Dark chocolate ruby brown with a large tan head. The aroma is very fruity with some cherries, brown sugar, honey and fig. Almost like a dopplebock here. The flavor was smooth and balanced and it finished medium bodied with a full mouthfeel. This was a good dunkel! thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2004 This bottled brew poured a large head of finely sized very light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lace. The body was transparent brown colored and carbonated. The aroma was nice with caramel malt and brown beer malt notes. The mouth feel was smooth slightly tingly and finished very mellow. It had a mild brown beer flavor that was malty and just a little thin. hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2004 Crystal clear, deep amber lager with a frothy, khaki-colored head. Decent retention. Nice lacing. Malty aroma with notes of maple syrup, honey, kiwi fruit and caramel.
Good malty brew with good balance. Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, astringent, dry finish. I'll go against the grain here and say this one is terrific for a lager! hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2004 Bottle. This beer formed a small sized ivory head that was frothy with fine-small sized bubbles that completely dissipated. The body was transparent with fast rising carbonation and a reddish-brown hue. The nose was malty and sweet with a sweet and malty flavor. The mouthfeel was smooth and slightly tingly. This beer's texture was thin with fair lacing.
