Good color and aroma, but too sweet to be a really good Dunkel. On the other hand it is a rich sweet beere and I'm sure it will have a fan base of it's own. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Dark amber hue. A sweet malt aroma is the most redeeming factor of this beer. Thin bodied with a bit of malt richness and a dash of spicy hops on the finish, but with a dissapointingly weak overall flavor. pjk33 (384), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Dec 29, 2003 The best thing about this one is the color. Maybe mine was skunked (damned green bottle)but it was sour and just plain bad. This beer left a bad bitterness with no real finish and no reason to want to take the next drink. I cannot recommend this beer to my friends or my enemies. Don't bother. wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA

This is a nice, dark red-brown beer with a sweet, malty nose. I likened it at the time to bread in a glass. A reasonably good dunkel, but really not inspired compared some I've had since. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 19, 2003 Malt juice. It pours a chestnut brown color, moderate carbonation. The aroma is plain and dry, some caramel and nuttiness, and the flavor carries on these themes with a strong vein of malt, and some alcohol flavors providing the only relief when it had fully warmed. The palate is slightly flat, slightly rich with syrup, but not especially interesting. This seems right about par for a bock, though it left me unsatisfied overall, feeling that it was a very low-quality, "kit" beer. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 5, 2003 Bottle, pours clear, slightly reddish brown with a large tan head, leaves nice lacing. Rich malty arona with alfalfa and a little coffee. Sweet flavor, mild spice with a slight grassiness and bitter chocolate. Medium body with mild carbonation. BrianO (138), Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 17, 2003 This was a great beer for the time that I am drinking it. Definitely a late in the year beer to drink. A very dark brown pour, with a little bit of head. Big sweet malty flavors dominate. The mouth feel is very light though and medium bodied. Some decent flavors, well masked, but they are there. Overall not my favorite that I have had in this style, but not a bad beer for the one just getting into drinking quality beer.
