Commercial Description:
Smooth and creamy best describes this beer. Black malt creates the intense color while adding a touch of roasted flavor. A large amount of rolled oats enhances the creaminess created by using nitrogen instead of carbon dioxide for the bubbles. Hold a normal stout up to the light and it’s hard to see through. Hold this stout up to the light and the room turns dark!

Tap. Black pour, creamy light brown head. Nice lacing. Grapefruit hop, charred grains, toasted rolled oats, and light coffee are all in the nose. Roasty flavor. Sticky mouthfeel. Smooth texture. Full flavored. Full of roast, oats, and molasses. Well balanced. Finishes with slight fruity esters.

On tap @ the Chophouse. First off another horrible pour by the bartender. Black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted grains, chocolate and a smoke. Bittersweet chocolate flavor. Creamy mouth feel but thin on the finish. Decent beer.

Appearance: quiet dark, brown-black little light shown. Large dense creamy top, thick with good lace on glass.
Nose: aroma that is not matching appearance, cardboard , woody with slight hint of black malt. 6-
Flavor/Palate : mid full bodied , mildly acidic with creamy roasted character with creamy textures. To soft to care.

Location: Tap at the Brew Pub , 8/7/09

Overall Impression: I liked this one a bit more then the Bourbon version. I found the Oatmeal to be lacking (hardly detectable) mostly, I just got roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Anyway, it was a touch thin, and a not overwhelmingly good, but a nice stout, my second favorite beer of the visit (losing by a nose to the Brown).

Draught at the brewpub. Black with a creamy tan head that leaves some lace. Coffee, roast, and lightly sweet dark chocolate aroma. The flavor has a light roasty edge, low bitterness, low hops, and just a light sweetness. Smooth due to the good carbonation level, and probably the oats, but too thin for a 6.2% oatmeal stout. Balanced and smooth, but lacking and great or interesting flavors. The best of the bunch overall, though not as great for the style as the light lager.

Poured a very dark brown almost black color. Served with no head and Ice cold. Strong tastes of coffee and a little hint of the oatmeal used. Would drink again.
