Taste of toasted malt, caramel, and chocolate - nothing special but a decent beer to drink at a cajun restaurant during Mardi Gras to complete the meal. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Bottle from Kris Wines. It’s the second time I’ve accompanied my red beans and rice with a Dixie brew, heck, I even chucked a bit in. Pours a deep reddish amber with a thin, quickly dissipating beige head. Nose of dark malt, dried fruits, grains, caramel, a little tobacco and chocolate. Taste is much the same with a low hop profile and some grainy cereal in the finish. Much better than I expected, was only the sweetness and the lack of a head that let it down. jeff789 (410), Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Pours a dark ruby, definitely not schwarzbier in appearance... Sweet caramel aroma, a bit malty, nearly no hops detectable at all... Sweet flavor, way sweet flavor, not in a really desirable way... Creamy mouthfeel, though a bit thin, needs more body, and less sweetness...I really loved this beer in college, but am very glad my tastes have changed in the past 10 years... Stick with Sprecher Black Bavarian or even Sam Adams Black Lager for a quality schwarzbier... branspra (225), Arlington, Virginia, USA

Aromas of caramel, malts, and some brown sugar. Smooth palate with a creamy mouthfeel. Tastes like a lager with some caramel, which sounds bad but actually works out. kkearn (1007), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Ruby-colored body with a clinging white head. Light, sweet aroma with caramel and sugar notes. Fair amount of carbonation on the palate. Nice flavor that is mostly sweet caramel and burnt sugar. There is some dark fruit and a touch of sourness at the end. Fairly clean finish. A good beer that I haven’t had is over ten years until tonight.
