Bottle from Capital Ale House - Downtown on 07/22/08. Dark amber body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Sweet toasty and caramel aroma with light molassas. Honey, caramel, toast, dark malt and molassas flavor. Medium full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy finish.

Pours a four finger light tan head that fades slowly, leaving some lace. Nice clear mahogany color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Balanced nose. Flavor is slightly sweet malt, nothing special, some what watery bitter finish and not a five like I rated it back in my youth (early 90’s). Very disappointing maybe its because its contract brewed now and not the original. We can only hope that Dixie Brewing will rise from Katrina’s destruction. $1.85 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

12 oz bottle shared with Maniac Capital Ale House. Bit of roasty caramel malt aroma. Clear amber brown with small fine off-white head. Dark carmelized malts dominate flavor with a bit of toffee. Slight fruityness. Light body with subdued spicey hop bitterness. Moderately dry clean finish. Quite tatsty. Not sure if I wouldn’t classify as a dunkel rather than a schwarz.

The Dan Journal #211. Tasted 7/21/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a bright amber hue. Clinging white ring of head. Caramel aromas with a slight watery coffee note. Light to medium bodied with a nice dose of caramel malts. Mild effervescence. Subtle banana yeast character. Mild cola with cookie citrus character. Doughy with a touch toffee and woody. Good malt profile. Fun session brew.

Bottle. Red-brown pour with a tan, smooth head. Malty, sweet, and grapey. Pretty good beer - I could drink a few of these.
