Bottle from Dchmela, thanks Dave! Dark brown transparent pour with a one finger of white fizz. Nose is of roasty grains, straw, some hops with nutty, woody nuances. Tastes of sweet roasted grains and roasted malt with nutiness and some chocolate/coffee. Finishes with prickly carbonation and a sweet roasty aftertaste. Good.

Bottle. Poured a deep dark amber body with nice head. Aroma is malty, light fruit. Flavor is sweet maltiness, light floral notes and robust. Very surprised with this one.

Bottle. Brown, fizzy appearance with a quickly growing and disappearing head. Mild nose of grapefruit, bread, and something a little sour. There’s some nice roastiness in the mouth, a good amount of hoppy bitterness, and some malts. Well balanced, despite some unwanted sourness. Good session beer from a cool brewery.

12 oz bottle thrown in as a bonus from shp555, thanks Steven. I remember drinking this over ten years ago when I first strated branching out into craft beer and thought it was good. Well time and my changing palate did not favor well for the reality of what this beer is. Poured a clear reddish brown with a small spongey white head. Very weak aroma with light notes of the following, chocolate, citrus, malts, grain. Weak watery flavor with some slight earth notes. Ahh.....some memories are best remembered as memories and some things should just be left in the past like this beer.

bottle. average fizzy tan head (good portion lasting) with awesome lacing into sparkling brown body. aromas of slight licorice, caramel, light hops, light chocolate, and light coffee. flavor is bittersweet throughout. long finish duration. dry textured. I will say that I stull enjoyed this brew but when I had it a few years ago I remember it being a more powerful guy.

Touch of malt and hops in the aroma, but also just a hint of something not so nice. (not quite skunky but just something a bit off) Looks rusty dark brown and not what I’d call "blackened" at all. Taste has no sign of what ever was a bit odd in the nose - somewhat sweet to start and quite malty in the middle. Ends a combination of a bit yeasty and then very dry and smooth. No real sign of 5% alcohol at all. Overall not bad from what others have described as an iffy brand. I wouldn’t exactly call it a typical schwarzbier either. Perhaps "dunkel" instead of schwarz and with the bit of the yeast there perhaps more of a schwarzlager.

Bottle courtesy shp555 - thanks! Hmmm, didn’t know this was a Schwarzbier when I opened it, but the pour brought things into a new light...brownish red color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is quite nice...lots of roasted malt and mixed spices. But the flavor just doesn’t hold to the aroma...lots of metallic notes and the burnt malts go a bit over the top. There is definitely some smoky/peat flavor lingering in there as well, which just doesn’t jive with the offering as a whole. Palate is watery and the metallic notes just give it a bad feel. Whew, talk about going south...pour and aroma were thumbs up, but the flavor and palate went south...way south...all the way to the bayou...
