The beer’s name, ’blackened’ conjures up images of food peppered and chared over flame but only a light smokiness is called up from this pleasent but unexciting black beer. Not bad. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear medium copper with very little tan head sticking around. The aroma picked up sweet toasty caramel and faint dry chocolate.. too sweet, but OK. The flavor was rather weak and boring, with lots of artificial sweetness.. caramel and faint chocolate again.. with a little breadiness.. dry, tacky caramel on the finish. Lighter-bodied and dry on the palate.. tacky and not very exciting. Nothing offensive here, but nothing to make me go back for more. GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Looks exactly like cherry coca cola. Kinda reminds me of a Guinness in aroma and flavor except sweeter and more syrupy. Roasted aroma and flavor dominant almost to the point of being smoky, but not quite. Beer looks very nice in the glass being very dark brown in color with a nice light brown head which is retained. There is pretty good lacing. This is good easy drinking beer. It does not have an abundance of layered flavor, however the one dimensional flavor it does have is pleasant. StFun (535), Indiana, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 1, 2008 As most here have stated, fairly average. Not "blackened" by any means. Tannish, with a decent flavor of malt, sugar, and carmel. A nice toasty after-taste. Fairly good, but nothing outstanding. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 28, 2008 12oz bottle. Blackened, eh? Pours more like dark amber with brown highlights. Toasted, dark biscuity malt with some sugary sweetness and spice on the nose. Toasted malt, noble grassy hops and an odd astringent bitterness on the tongue. On the watery side finishing dry and bitter. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2008 Poured brown with an off white head. Not much of an aroma. Some sweet malt. Chocolate and fruit flavors are pretty dominant. Some bitterness but more sweet malt. ChainGangGuy (2568), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body with a frothy off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, grainy aroma with light notes of pepper, caramel, and fruit.
Taste: Mild dark caramel flavor with a subdued caramel sweetness. Slight hint of burnt grains. White pepper, spicy hop flavor with a bitterness that remains light. Finishes dry and relatively clean.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A pleasant enough, sessionable beer with just enough flavor to hold your attention, but not nearly enough to make you think, "Gee, I sure could go for a Dixie Blackened Voodoo right about now!" Guerde (706), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 22, 2008 (bottle) Pours brown, (which is odd for a beer named blackened voodoo) with a white head. The smell is typical lager, grainy with a light hop in there. The taste is lightly roasty with just a little bit of hop bitterness at the end, but the taste is very weak. Really watery, and not that good.
