| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Bottle from City Beer Store. Dark brown color but looks thin on the pour, quickly disappearing off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, faint citrus hops. Nose is almost nonexistent--you have to try really hard to find anything. Taste of sweet butter malt, water, slight grass hops, bread. Sharp finish, thin body. Undistinguished. Xyladaun (12), USA

Rucker, Al at the Flight School in the 90’s, this stuff was one of my favorite brews at the bar ’The Zone’ in Enterprise, Al. We dance the night away with the local girls and swilled this down by the gallon.
I loved the flavor, aroma and the patate was a real salvation for me at least, I loved Oly Dark in the North West and this was the only thing close. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 29, 2007 This bottle was brewed in the EU. Pours dark brown with absolutely no head, although the beer itself was rather fizzy. Dried fruit in the aroma and a similar taste, quite nice malt flavours. Practically no aftertaste. The bottle I had was a few months out of date, so perhaps it wasn’t the best example to judge the beer on. BREWMUSKCLES (1087), New Jersey, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jun 15, 2007 taste black with licorice astringency and burnt malt with twigs and somethingorother. a bit sweet, i’ll try it again in the future. although i have drank it periodically over the last 8, 10 years or so. ahh forget that i don’t really like it. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 5, 2007 I do believe that this bottle was a pre-Katrina bottle, so it had some age on it. While I felt that it was more of a simply dark lager than a schwarzbier, I’ll just go with the flow. Aroma was toffeeish, sour malt, with an underlying roast character. Appearance was cola in color, with nearly naught a head to see. Mouthfeel was light, clean. Flavor was more toffee, subtle hops and not really much else. I’ll give this another go when I can obtain a fresher beer. littlefelix (29), Santa Clarita, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2007 This WAS a wonderful beer. I’m afraid that some of these recent posts are misleading. They haven’t been made since before Hurricane Katrina. So if people are buying them now, they would be fairly old. Which can be good or bad, depending on the conditioning on location. The newly bottle BV’s will be brewed by a contracted source, so once they hit the shelves soon I’ll be interested to see the difference, if any.
