Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Pours a deep brown hue with little fizzy beige head and no lace. The aroma has notes of chalky yeast esters, burnt malt, walnut, prune, hint of bittersweet chocolate, and a touch of corn meal. The flavor is rather simple grainy and sweet malt over a base of nut and acidic twang. The feel is gummy and soft. Rather okay brew that will not make you run to the hill. Enjoyed while listening to Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell - Dueling Banjos.

Dark, not much head. Has a chocolaty nose. Palate is the best of the beer for me. Raisins, toffee, a bit of alcohol present. Warming mouthfeel with nice sweetness. I detected no hops.

Pours a watery-looking but dark brown/black with a very tiny head of tan/light brown foam that disappears quickly. A very thin film of tan remains on top of the beer. It smells very elegant, chocolates and caramels abound, with a touch of lemon in the nose. The beer is really quite watery; not much in the mouthfeel department. Very malty and bitter in taste, with roasted malts and chocolate emerging midswallow. The lingering taste is that of dark chocolate and bread. A decent beer, but if you want a good schwarzbier, I recommend Sprecher’s Black Bavarian over this one.

Bottle, 11/2-06. Dark red, with a thin white foam. Citric, and maltynes in the aroma. Thin body and a short bitter finish.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown beer with a thin light brown head. Toasted malt aroma that overlies a faintly chemically aroma. Earthy and musty. Flavour is acrid, dirty dishwater. Light roast and a thin sour finish. Very chemically and just plain nasty. No thanks. Like sucking on coffee beans and roofing nails.

One bottle from BOTW. Dark, with a nice brown head. Aroma is creamy and nutty, fruity, malty, with chocolate and coffee. Mild flavor from sweet fruits, nuts, and toffee. Mild finish.

Dark brown color with amber highlights. Produces a fairly tight light tan head which quickly fades to a thin whisp. Faint aromas of dark wheat bread, dark roasted malt and burnt caramel. Palate is quite thin, but brew is smooth and easy going down. Moderately sweet flavors of toffee, raisin, toasted malts and nuts. Flavors seem quite reserved. Overall the name is certainly more ominous that the beer itself. An average representation of the syle at best.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Poured dark with a tan head. Aroma of carmel. Flavor is smooth, slightly sweet, slight fruit.
